2. mmmm Saturnalia
isn't that the ancient Roman holiday where the household owners had to be kind to and serve their slaves? Kind of an odd version of "secretary's day".

5. no far from it
it was a bacchanal, replete with orgies, sodomy, public drunkenness, food gorging, and lots of vomitting.

also, in roman culture, they somewhat held to the greek ideal of beauty; i.e., the pinnacle of beauty for most older men was a young man. so you can see where i am going with this. and where the romans went.

9. bacchanal, saturnal
it's all good

I believe I could probably do the first four in your list without any vomiting.

Actually have always loved the solstices and equinox before I ever knew anything about them historically.

6. "I'm dreaming of a real Solstice"
Nods to the unknown neo-Pagan who wrote this piece at least 12 years ago.

I'm dreaming of a real Solstice,
Just like the Druids used to know.
It would be so pleasin`
To stand there, freezin`
At Stonehenge in the sleet and snow.

I'm dreaming of a real Solstice
With no eclectic modern feel.
If your blade is silver, not steel,
Then may all your Solstices be real.

7. Love this little Solstice song!!!
I wandered over to the Unitarian Church the other day while my mother was in the doctor's office. I was raised a Unitarian but am so "unchurched" that even Unitarians seem too organized for me! LOL
Anyway, I found out that a Wiccan is a member and ran a course on it and that the Unitarians actually have little brochures about paganism.

Maybe I'll visit sometime....feeling a need to connect since my recent church--the Democratic Party--hasn't really been feeding me spiritually recently...and I mean that...Social concerns have always been part of my "religion"--the Unitarian church I went to as a child seemed to impress social awareness in me, and then I got more political because of social concerns...but now, they seem to be so much less important in terms of mainstream politics...SIGH

10. You may find what you need there
I wasn't brought up going to church at all, but I am a spiritual person. I go to the UU church a few times a year when I am in need of a little energy around me, and it is great. And the church here does a lof of social action stuff, I am sure most of them do...
