17. Jay Was "Smokin'"

Durin his heydays on WLS in the mid and late 90's, he was THE best Progressive/liberal voice on radio. He left WLS to go to Denver...and was replaced by Mike Malloy. What seemed to have messed with Jay's head was Columbine. Also, he got very wrapped up in the McVeigh situation...which was being tried in Denver. He kinda went through a change not unlike those who witnessed the WTC. His rhetoric mellowed and he seemed to be more "mainstream".

He came back to Chicago...and was on with Malloy on WLS for a short time (the last time WLS sounded any good)...Malloy was canned and Marvin got jerked around...first on various time slots and then when a more conservative management came in they carefully watched his shows. He was finally moved into a mid day slot and teamed with a conservative bitch (she's still there) where he'd play "librul" punching bag.

Fortunately Jay's gig ran out at WLS and he was able to land the gig in Denver and has been guest hosting for Springer. Jay's still not back to his mid 90's level, but he's a lot better than he was a couple years back. The man is very emotional and won't hesitate to call ANY caller on their bullshit and to some that may make him sound like an asshole...but so be it. He can and does speak truth to power with the best of them and I wish AAR would give him a regular slot...then let Jay be Jay and watch what fun can really happen.

For anyone who remembers his WLS shows...those nightly shotguns where he'd cut up excerpts of the goofiest phone calls was a classic. Smokin....
