Cheney Breaks Senate Tie on Spending Cuts

WASHINGTON - The Republican-controlled Senate passed legislation to cut federal deficits by $39.7 billion on Wednesday by the narrowest of margins, 51-50, with Vice President Dick Cheney casting the deciding vote.

By themselves, the deficit cuts included in the five-year bill would amount to only 2.5 percent of projected shortfalls totaling $1.6 trillion over the same time frame. Republicans said the significance lies in more than mere numbers, adding that programs such as Medicare and Medicaid threaten to consume an unsustainable amount of federal revenue if their growth is not trimmed quickly.

Which is spiraling out of control at the hands of *conservatives* -- conservatives who wish us to believe the economic crisis following 9/11 was a ripple (when discussing the economic health of our nation) and a meteor strike (when discussing why we have such large deficits).

It's too darn bad the American people can actually see this for what it is -- a slap in the face to Americans in poverty and a slap on the back of large defense corporations. The only justice to come of this is the bastards being voted out of office and forced to live in the same socio-economic conditions as the least fortunate members of our society.
