The Radical Right-Wing War on Politeness
This whole "war on Christmas" non-issue has gotten me thinking. There is indeed a war going on, but it's a war on politeness and social grace, and it's the radical right-wingers who fired first.

The essence of good manners is making others feel as comfortable as possible. Since there are many people who are celebrating something other than Christmas, and you don't want to make anyone feel excluded or marginalized, it's just good manners to say something inclusive like "Happy holidays" if you don't know someone's religious preference. This phrase doesn't exclude those who celebrate Christmas; it merely *includes those who don't.* And that is obviously what the radical rightists are objecting to.

2. I know.
I run a fan message board and one poster put up a message Merry Christmas-no happy holidays or you're asking for a fight! I immediately posted Happy Hannukah to our Jewish friends who are also fans, and have talked about their faith on the board before, so it wasn't like this person didn't know that not everyone there was Christian (actually, there are Muslims and Buddhists there as well).

7. you are making a hugh!!! assumption. that they want inclusion
i was talking to a couple religious, one minister, one teacher at my boys fundie school. when i told them they were not being inclusive, they were being exclusive they willingly admitted yes that is true. they are not to be inclusive, which i assumed they wanted, but that isnt what they are looking for. you believe their way or youa re excluded. they dont have a problem with that and readily own it and seemed to be proud, even superior in their attitude of that.

11. That's What I've Been Saying For Years
The Republicans are the rudest people around. Just listen to Limbaugh or O'Reilly, who are both incredibly rude. And their conservative fans learned to be so rude from them. So you are right on target.
