CSPAN Wash Journal -- Ken Adelman's wife
Carol Adelman counts money sent back "home" by recent immigrants as foreign aid.

Unbelievable.

1. Hell No
That's remittances and that's totally different than foreign aid. What an idiot. What do I consider foreign aid? Sending expert hydrologists to poor countries to develop developed world water systems. I consider foreign aid being that the US gets rid of the debt of poor countries. Everyone complains about the French and how cruel they are (from freepers), but they got rid of the debt for 40 countries.

What an idiot.

3. There was another bit of philosophical hypocricy that I noted, too.
One of the callers asked her if other countries sent us aid when our schools were/are crumbling, when natural didasters hit, etc... Mrs. "Cakewalk" Adelman proudly noted that since we're the richest country in the world that any such aid would be unnecessary.

See the hypocricy? When we're talking about foreign aid it's "good" to have a system which reflects the ability of each individual nation to pay. But I have a nagging suspicion that Mrs. "Cakewalk" doesn't support the same notion in America's tax policy. Why, that would be downright Socialist!

*grumble*

4. My favorite Adelman story...
It's either late 1989 or early 1990. I think it was spring semester 1990. At any rate, it's less than a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

I am a student at Texas A&M. We host a roundtable discussion with some new government officials of Poland and (then) Czechoslovakia. Also there was one of A&M's history professors and Ken Adelman. Damn near everyone was there to discuss the challenges these new countries would face in forming governments and the potential for small, ethnic conflicts. Ken Adelman was there to pitch the idea that the cold war was still on, and we needed to be distrustful and remain prepared for a large war. He managed to turn off even the A&M conservo-wacko crowd.

He's a hawk of the first order. I'm sure his wife is more of the same. Evil people...reall evil.
