Bush secretly collected names of gun owners in America
Can you imagine the reight wingers yelling and bitching if Bush decided that guns cant be in the hands of terrorists and began secretly collecting names and addresses of every multiple gun owner?

Of course he would use the same excuse he used to violate the 4th amendment of the Constitution, 911, we are at war, prevent another attack, I am king, ya-da ya-da.

5. I can see your point. I know a gun owner/Bush-lover who would say
"It's okay if Bush has my name. I TRUST him. Nothing would happen."

"Published on Thursday, May 4, 2000 in the Washington Post

The NRA Brags That They'll Work Out Of President GW Bush's Oval Office

by John Mintz

The National Rifle Association's second-ranking officer boasted at a closed meeting of NRA members earlier this year that if Republican nominee George W. Bush wins in November, "we'll have . . . a president where we work out of their office."

First Vice President Kayne Robinson, who is in line to succeed NRA President Charlton Heston, added that the NRA enjoys "unbelievably friendly relations" with the Texas governor. Robinson, who is also chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, made the comments Feb. 17 before 300 members in Los Angeles. He also described 2000 as "a critical election" in which Bush's success would ensure "a Supreme Court that will back us to the hilt.""

AP: NYT
The White House has been secretly collecting names of all multiple gun owners in the United States since 9/11.
It was leaked yesterday by a White House aid that the Bush Administration has a list of known multiple gun owners in the United States.
The President defends this list saying it is necessary to maintain a list of known gun owners in the event of the need to enforce marital law. He says his powers allow him to do this because the Constitution does not apply to his office.

10. I got a response already from a reight winger
This is from a conservative talk show host in Texas:

"Like most gun owners who actually take the time to register their weapons, my guns cannot be linked with any crime, and I cannot be linked to any terrorist. Since I obey the law and am not a threat to any of my fellow Americans, you are right...It doesn't bother me. It makes me feel safer that something is being DONE to prevent another attack. If this wasn't being done and we were attacked again, you know exactly who would be blamed for not "protecting us". "

21. MY Pet Republican responds:
These are the words of a demented republican, I take no responsibility except for the provoking I did to get the message:
_____________________________________________
1) I don't own a gun
2) In perilous times like these I'd rather violate parts of the Constitution for a time, if necessary to protect the Constitution for ALL time. In other words, I would not want to sacrifice the OVERALL liberty of the country to protect ONE part of the Constitution, for then BOTH will be lost and the point will be moot.
3) Every president goes above and around the law during times of war. Our social welfare president, FDR, was probably in violation of many civil rights but it wasn't questioned then because America knew we were at war. Today, much of America doesn't realize we are at war.
4) My "liberty" to own a gun, free speech, privacy, etc. will mean nothing if America is overcome by another nation or force. Bush's FIRST priority is to PROTECT America - in that regard he has done a magnificent job and I don't care if he uses illegal spying or gun registration to do it !
__________________________________________________

This guy didn't even have a clue that the message was fake and would blindly accept the crime against him to take place. BEND OVER, pass the KY

8. Already happened. NRA sued the FBI over it in 1998.
http://www.cnn.com/US/9812/01/instant.gun.checks.02/

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The National Rifle Association on Tuesday filed a federal lawsuit to block the FBI from keeping records on the instant background checks that are now mandatory for all gun sales.

The NRA lawsuit alleges that the "FBI intention to create and maintain a database of gun purchases is a violation of federal law, an invasion of privacy, and constitutes an illegal national registration of gun owners.""

15. That was the Clinton administration though
I think if * or Gonzales secretly asked the NRA for a list of all its members (a good guideline to the location of a lot of firearms in the US) they'd hand them over without a peep.

14. That is a non-firing replica that the guy in your picture is holding.
I guess that you are trying to insinuate that real machine guns are being sold like candy. Not so. First, a REAL MG-42 is rare enough that they go for over $100,000 dollars each. And nobody has enough of them to stack them like you show in the picture. Nor would a million dollars in guns be unguarded. The only way they would be so many in one place and stacked like that would be replicas. And you don't need permission to buy a non-firing replica.

To buy a REAL machine gun you need to first go through a huge pile of federal paperwork and a rectal exam by the FBI and get permission from you local police. And then you have to have a huge wad of cash. Even an old M-16 that is selective-fire sells for about $16,000.00.

bolt-action. They do sell those like candy...

24. I hate being picky, but...
that's actually an MG-34 (or replica), the guy is holding (compare the cooling jacket with an MG-42).

However, it looks like there's at least 1 MG-42 leaning against the cage in the background.

;)

Can't tell about the other ones due to the picture quality.

26. You're right. It is a MG-34. My oops.
While one can't tell from the picture, which way would you bet: Replica or actual?

Do you have any better info on the price of an actual. I was making an educated guess at 100K for an MG42. Since the 34s are more rare, they would likely be higher.

27. Fake and/or deactivated.

Looks like the pic was taken here (name of pic is Beltring 1999 guncontrol hey.jpg).

http://www.thewarandpeaceshow.com

Unfortunately, I can't get past the homepage without my connection timing out.

While the Brits have just about been totally disarmed, they did allow ownership of deactivated war trophies. In fact, IIRC, there's even DEWAT clubs for collectors and enthusiasts.

However, even owning fake or deactivated guns in Britain could (if it already hasn't), become illegal. I know there's been a push going on ban toy and/or fake guns. I'm not certain if they've succeeded in doing that just yet.

23. I think the poster is trying to also imply that genuine machine guns...
...are sold at gun shows. For a person who is not knowledgeable about guns and gun law that would be an inference that they could draw. It would be a wrong conclusion. So I am providing accurate information to offset the bias of the picture.

It's maddening, clicking on a thread and realizing you've been misled ... deliberately, in this case. It's not unlike a spam email with a misleading subject line.

private militia, salute, then run out and start shooting lefties as soon as they get a signal from the mother ship.

It's their wet dream.

"These will contain descriptions of weapons... and lists of private ownership."

Lets just hope Bush hasn't watched "Red Dawn".
