Tin Foil Time . . . Explosives Stolen in New Mexico
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 09:12 PM by Curtis
Okay, I am sure I am just being paranoid and all, but I am concerned about one thing. These explosives missing in New Mexico that could level a building stinks. Bush's numbers are low, he is facing a crisis with the wire taping thing and Republicans are looking to lose at least one part of Congress this year. So, it's PERFECT time for a terrorist attack to "fix" all those things. Bush's popularity will soar (rally around the flag), all other news stories will go away and Republicans can scream that because Democrats brought up the whole wire tapping thing we could not track the terrorists anymore so American needs to vote all the Democrats out of office.

Yeah, paranoid . . . right?

1. Well, imagine this.... I am a terrorist, I came into Mexico full well
knowing that I could get into the U.S. without much trouble... fake I.D. at the border, put the stuff in the gas tank or tires or whatever.... roll on up here and light the bugger off somewhere nice. First thing I want to do is call unka Hamid and tell him straight up that I got the goods into the country and am preparing to make it go boom soon. Yeah, that's what I'd do.

6. I doubt it
I think it was primer cord or Det-cord that was stolen. Not the kind of stuff you would want to blow a building with. A plane maybe, but more likely someone is going fishing or gettin rid of a stump. It is used to ignite other explosive charges though. I used it in the oilfield to set off directional charges when perforating wells. Powerful stuff though, and caps can be ignited remotely via radio signal to set off the cord.

7. This is the SECOND such incident at this site. No guards, no fence,
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 09:23 PM by TomInTib
no alarms. The perps just took the time to cut (torch) their way into a free-standing trailer and just drive away with plenty C4 to take down a large building.

Who needs Homeland Security? Those dolts could never stop something like this.

I wonder how many more sites have this much plastique on hand.

9. And after all the talk about securing the homeland...
isn't it nice to know you can just waltz in and take explosives. This country is so fucked because of this administration. I hope we can recover.

8. This story seems to have been a minor blip, slipping off the radar,
which concerns me greatly. I read of a $50k reward today, maybe it should be 100 times that. The perps obviously knew what they were after, and how to extract it. I would be highly surprised if the stuff is used in any terrorist action in New Mexico. Vegas is a possibility, LA or SF perhaps moreso. If they were somehow able to get the haul over the border to Mexico, all bets are off; it could be headed to Central/South America, or to almost any other spot on the globe. I think it's a safe bet they didn't risk this operation to blow up tin cans in the Mojave desert for fun....

11. Why would a "terrahist" attack benefit Bush? Wouldn't it show just
how fucked up his administration is? Four years and billions of bucks and a legislative/national security blank check and he still can't stop the bad guys? How does that get spinned into a good thing for the boobs?

We've given him everything he's asked for and more, and he blew it again, just like with that baseball team.

Time to go to the bullpen.

16. Mindset of this admin is such that they're keeping this country...
safe. What happens if there is another terrorist attack? Probably this admin will tell us the Dems have prevented them from all the resources available to track down the terrorists.

I call bullshit. They have a majority in all branches of federal gov't. Like you said, he blew it with the baseball team and any other business he got his measly hands on. And how can he, as Commander-in-Chief, be expected to be aware of all the 'little' things that happen in this country? Isn't that what is supposed to happen at the federal level? Keep us safe? I don't feel they have kept us safe since well before 9/11.

21. No.
The motive of the first attack was to instill fear and terror in order for them to further their PNAC agenda, ie the invasion of Iraq.
The second terror attack would be to move this country into a complete fascist state with martial law.
It won't matter at that point what the people think.
The damage will be done and there will be nothing you can do.

12. How How How...???
Could another turhh attack HELP Bush's numbers? His ONLY premise for his entire existence is that he, and he alone, can "Keep Amuricah Safe".

I just don't get how it would help him.

15. Thom Hartmann was just connecting this dot with...
the fact that the Patriot Act is set to expire, and Republicans are not willing to give the Dems the 90-day extension for honest debate. They would rather let it expire. And then, if something happens, it will be easy for the Reps to blame the Dems.

17. honestly..
i wouldn't be AS concerned about it if i didnt KNOW anyone could more or less walk into our country anytime they want to from Mexico. Maybe if we had better border security it would be a little less troubling to me. any one else agree?

22. I wouldn't be so concerned about Mexico
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 11:48 AM by T Roosevelt
Somebody just stole explosives from a construction site in New Mexico. The stuff coming into our ports isn't being checked throroughly. Our longest open border is with Canada, not Mexico. And the secret wiretapping program was used 18,000+ times - that's a lot of terrorists already in the country (assuming you believe that Bush and the administration is credible in this, which they aren't).

So border security along the Mexican border doesn't really rank up there in our national security worries - it's nothing than another hate-filled talking point put our there and exaggerated by assholes like Limbaugh and Savage, only meant to distract us from the true enemies of this country (that would be Bush and his cronies).

19. Why didn't his wiretaps catch it?
A lot of good they are.

It still doesn't change the fact that what he did is illegal.

And yes, it is really frightening to think of the trouble they could cause. But why go to the trouble of stealing it, when they can just silently do it? Alibi or not.

We're pretty much at King George's mercy. All we can do is stay in front and keep yelling the facts.

I have heard that they tag materials with identifiers. I'm sure someone who knows can put this to rest.

20. "Making It Happen On Purpose" . . . the BushCo fall-back tactic . . .
when they a) want to do something that most Americans would find abhorrent, or B) find their asses backed into a very tight corner . . .

both conditions apply right now . . . 2006 is going to be a memorable year -- and likely not in a positive way . . .
