10. She was on Tavis Smiley today as well
very good, insightful interview and she didn't pull punches but stated the case that Bush had broken the law.

2. Sounds good to me. It'd be nice to have a progressive to vote for.
Haven't had one since Dukakis.

4. One good thing
there is a "new" crop of Dems coming out of this. They appear to be leaving the others in the dust. Good for them.

11. I second your absolutivity, I say she works fine.
I say she's electable like Franklin Delano Roosevelt was electable. She's brave, tough, with an unerring moral compass. She's wickedly smart. She's sensible. She could make this a great nation again, instead of a rudderless disaster. She's got a great voice and presence.
She's also not a 'type'. She's just straightforward excellent public servant, just like John Adams. She'll stand against the crowd if the crowd is wrong. That's a rare thing -- to me that's real America. That is the true spirit. An unerring moral compass combined with Courage, of the Old Sort -- She seems Churchillian to me.

I think America would love this woman, if she was put up front and pushed hard.

13. We can find a very nice Progressive from N. CA to replace her...
Just imagine Boxer and Conyers running this nation...a return to sanity. Oh, that would be too sweet.

19. Yup, California needs to make recompense to the nation for Reagan and
Nixon. And Barbara Boxer would certainly do it! I'm all for it! THAT would be a campaign!!! Can you imagine HONESTY, or even just REALITY, in a presidential campaign? Reality. Wow.

I've been very fond of my idea of "poetic justice": Gore/Kerry. Gore is hot. Truly great speeches last year. And Kerry could be brought along under the right influence. But the main point: both them unjustly deprived of the White House. I feel like the American people would love it. At last, at last, we get the prez and v-p we WANTED, and we voted for! Justice is our thing, you know. And if it's "poetic," all the better.

But I have to say that Boxer is equally, if not more, exciting--and I, too, think of Jan. 20. The ONLY Senator who stood with the people on the most important matter of our time: the American peoples' rejection of war and revolt against the Bush Cartel.

I've been doomsaying around here, stating that the war profiteers and Diebold and ES&S have already selected Hillary as our candidate, and we had better face THAT reality, and start strategizing how to appeal to her progressive roots to get election reform, sometime within the decade (the federal route being a quick way to get it done). If history is any guide, no populist antiwar candidate will be permitted to get the Dem nomination and pose any risk of majority views getting control of the White House. I suspect that the "aspens" may actually have a plan to put a War Dem in the WH, temporarily--to start taking the rap for Bush's financial and foreign policy disasters, to get a military Draft (which Bush and the Repubs can't do), and to expand the war in the Middle East--and when all hell breaks loose, and the center/left rips itself to shreds, they will install the real Hitler in '12.

But that said (and it really does need to be said, given the realities of our election system), why be so gloomy? I will not be gloomy tonight. I will think of Barbara Boxer being president of the United States. And what a fine dream it is, full of light!
