2. I wish them well
The sovereign country of Hawai'i was the victim of a hostile takeover that was engineered by American businessmen. Hmmmm, doesn't sound at ALL familiar....or does it?

3. damn it
we need all the progressive democrats we can muster..come back!
Alternatively, the Northeast, Northwest, and Midwest could secede
to Canada, and we'd have us a liberal superpower of the North.

4. FYI
The articlw says-

The Hawaiian islands have been part of the United States since the U.S. military overthrew the last monarch, Queen Liliuokalani, in 1959.

Queen Liliuokalani was deposed by the advocates of a Republic for Hawaii(white businessmen) in 1893. Hawaii became a state in 1959.

Hawaii was annexed to the United States through (an illegal) joint resolution of the U. S. Congress in 1898. Recently a copy of a petition was found that was signed by nearly ALL native Hawaiians at the time against the annexation.
Also during the election that was held to determine statehood
anyone that was on the islands was allowed to vote, including all
members of the U.S. military.

They've been screwed over and over.

5. I have read some of the history of Hawaii and totally agree with you!
I have been fortunate to visit Maui, a stunningly beautiful island and would be very pleased to go back, especially if the Hawaiian Islands become a sovereign nation.

6. But at least they are protected against Al Queda
Who knows what misfortunes would have befallen the isles if not for having a "Big Brother" to watch over things.

The irony of the Hawaii story is that Hawaii was originally inhabited by short, shy, bananna eating, forest dwelling peoples who were considered "inferior" to the landing Tahitians. They were wiped out through fighting and bred in to the invaders.

All that's left are some stone structures and fairy tales of the "Menehune" - now considered to be Hawaii's 'Leprecauns'.

Even paradise has its share of genocide.
