The difference between Nixon and Bush
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 02:52 PM by Sandpiper
When Nixon broke the law, he said:

"I'm not a crook."

Bush broke the law, and he says:

"I'm a crook and I don't care what you think about it."

How much more brazen can the GOP get?

1. Another big difference between the 2
Nixon was smart. If I could I would dig up his bones and breath life into them if he would take
bush's place right now.

One of the last things he wrote was that we should never commit troops to the mid east.

5. You're right
Nixon at least had brains, Bush is an imbecile. Nixon finally had the good sense to realize that he couldn't govern anymore and resigned. Bush will have to be dragged kicking and screaming out of the White House.

2. Nixon had a conscious and brush never did or will.
Despite all the illegal activity Nixon engaged in, he knew it was wrong but felt it was necessary. Brush doesn't think it is wrong, he has no conscious, no sense of guilt, if he wants to do it then he should be allowed to do it. Despite Nixon's paranoia (or because of it) he felt very guilty over what he did. It wasn't something Nixon would tell his mother. But Brush, he would tell his mother and brag about it to his father. Then the Brush family would all pat him on the back and say, "You're doing a heck of a job."

6. Please don't accuse Nixon of having a conscience
He purposely dragged out the Vietnam for his own political gain.

3. Bush is worse. Much worse.
But like Nixon, he's obsessed with his political enemies. It won't surprise me at all if, when we see who was illegally spied on, it has little to do with al Qaida.

8. Nixon was obsessed
with political enemies who didn't exist. One of the things about Watergate that always impressed me was how unnecessary it all was. There was no need for the break-in but Nixon was obsessed with "enemies", mostly imagined. He wanted to see what they were up to but the Democrats weren't planning anything out of the ordinary. The 1972 election was a landslide for Nixon and he could have easily served out his second term but he self-destructed. It will indeed be interesting to read the names on Bush's list, I suspect that many will have no link to terrorism; I'm thinking that there will be hostile newspaper columnists, blogs (such as this one), TV/radio talk shows and Democrats.

4. Similar to my own take on this...
I've always said that Nixon...paranoid, delusional, whatever...geniunely thought that he was doing "the right thing."

I think that Bush knows what he wants,, and that "right" and "wrong" never enter into the picture...not even for the blink of an eye.

Anyone can have anything they want if they're willing to sideline notions of "right, wrong, good, evil." Bush knows this. He's not a genius, neither is Rove. They just know that the quickest route between two points is a straight line with no emotions or value judgments (or, as we've recently seen, regard for the Constitution and U.S. law) to slow you down.

"Bush knows this. He's not a genius, neither is Rove. They just know that the quickest route between two points is a straight line <...>"

So, are Bush and Rove planning a trip to Australia any time soon?

9. Another difference: was not Nixon a choir boy or boy scout in comparison?
