I Got Asked to Leave Wal-Mart This AM....sort of
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 01:48 PM by rsmith6621

My wife got my a$$ out of bed this AM at 0700 to go and finish up last minute WAR on Christmas shoppin(LOL). As usual my wife sends me off in one direction to pickup some goods and then it takes me 25 minutes and a 1/4 mile walk to find her. In the mean time Im looking at all the made in China,India,Chiluhunka,Valortranki ect items. Over in the Toy section they have a M1 Abrahms remote control tank that is about 30 inches long and sells for $200.00. While looking at the display I looked up towards the top of the shelf and saw a IN HOUSE MADE SIGN that said..."Your Child Can Be A Real Patriot With this as a gift this Christmas".......

Well I asked to see the the highest level person in management for clarification....when he came over I asked him who made the sign,he said it was in house.....I asked him if the sign had to be approved before it was put up....he said no....I then asked if the sign was an appropirate message to send to our childern.....he then asked me what my problem was.....I then said being a Patriot does equal going to war....being a Patriot doesnt mean killing innocent people.......being a Patriot doesnt mean.....putting on a uniform or giving 4 years of your life in military service.....nor does it mean supporting the president........I told him actually being a patriot is using diplomacy to avoid war, protecting the freedoms our constitution grant us by being a voice in our own communitys..... speaking up and out when our president/leaders lie us into things that are not true including the war that toy is being used for real in Iraq......then I turned the toy over and said...Wal-Mart use to be into the MADE IN THE U.S.A. mantra and toutet how patriotic they were as a result of it but it appears as though that isnt true anymore....the Tank was made in Taiwan. Whats up with that I asked him.........he paused and then asked me if I was ready to leave....I said he would have to ask my wife....

I did get in one more jab...I asked him if he was a Christian.....oh yes he said proudly......I asked him if he is against abortion....yes defintley he said....I said not much.....he said explain.....I said by selling items made in China you are supporting forced abortion thus that makes you a hypocrite to your own teachings.......

He then proceded to tell me to finish my shopping done quickly and leave.

Im confused....who won this battle.

13. If you spent money there, then Wal-Mart won. They're in the sales
business. You supported their business.

If you didn't spend money there, then they didn't win.

20. That's the truth right there.
I hate myself for spending money at wal-mart. I feel dirty for needing to save $1.50 on face wash and $6 on diapers over any other competing (and just as evil) mega-store in my area. I want to stop, but they (the man and his ilk) manage to keep my wages low enought that I have no other choice.

Damn the man, save the empire.

You probably won't change his mind, but it is very good to express your feelings about this sort of crap. Eventually, with enough people saying so, and enough bs being publicized, may make a difference. Besides, it is necessary to speak out, otherwise the controllers have won.

27. I'm not defending the place
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 02:34 PM by Coyote_Bandit
Simply pointing out that there are now fundies protesting their business practices - although for all the wrong reasons.

There are some folks who have little choice but to shop at Wally World.

Go to some of the rural areas of the country where other businesses have been forced out by the monster. I personally know someone who opened a small store in northeast Texas and was unable to compete with Wally World because they could not offer the same range of goods and products and because they could not obtain the same volume discounts from suppliers. Are you willing to invest the time and gasoline to drive 40 miles or so one way (80 miles round trip) to avoid shopping at Wally World? I can take you to several places where you would have to do just that.

Also consider the unemployed and underemployed among us who are barely able to get by financially. I don't condemn those who must be as frugal as possible to survive. I personally am acquainted with folks who are required to be frugal - they shop the sales, use coupons, look for mark down items approaching their expiration date, patronize the dollar stores, consignment stores and goodwill stores - and sometimes shop at Wally World. Many of these folks can tell you the price of items they buy frequently to the penny. They are not shopping at Wally World because it is convenient or because they like their business practices. They are investing the time and effort necessary to stretch the purchasing power of their income as far as possible. They have to - count yourself fortunate not to be in their position.

edit for spelling

43. Great!
Good for you. I don't see anybody here defending Wally World. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone were so fortunate to have the same opportunity as you? Unfortunately, Wally World is fast becoming the "company store" for many of the less fortunate members of our society and as I noted in an earlier post here there are many rural residents who have very few if any choices where to shop. Before we condemn folks for shopping at Wally World we really ought to consider the circumstances in which some of those customers live.

45. agreed, but
Wal Mart is a trap. Even though some people may not have any other options or can't afford any other options the net negative effect of the Wal Mart store on a local area is to stifle the growth of an area. If all shops were locally owned the wealth of a community would stay in that community, instead of being exported one pair of cheap shoes at a time. Large scale stores like Wal Mart also destroy the bond that forms between community members, since the level of personal contact with store workers and owners is reduced.

If a salesperson tells you that if you buy "made in Taiwan" then you should buy something "made in China", then don't buy either the product or the rhetoric.

The government of China wants you to think of Taiwan as part of China.

you covered too much ground instead of sticking to the original point that patriotism is more than being in the military. You went off on a rant which attacked Wal-mart too, and finally had to personally attack him as well, over policies like "made in China" over which he has no control. You just convinced him that you are a left-wing obnoxious nut. What is going to happen if you knock on his door with some campaign literature?

Type the words "forced", "abortion", and "Taiwan" into your favorite search engine. See what happens. I get such items as:

"<...> Taiwan and China <...> split in 1949. Despite this, there have been many marriages between Chinese and Taiwanese citizens.

Taiwan allows pregnant Chinese spouses who do not have residency rights to extend their stay, so they can give birth on the island and avoid forced abortion."

the "made in China" comment was not about the tank, which was made in Taiwan, which is not yet part of China. That comment was about all the other stuff in Wal-mart which is made in China. The argument does not stay on point, might as well bring Santa into it too.

Peace bro, we know Taiwan is not part of China.

Today I stepped into WAL-FART for the first time in 6 months because Mr. Graywarrior didn't want to spend $5.00 for a 3 ring binder at Staples. It felt wrong to even be in there.

WAL-FART is like a sneaky drug, like when you find yourself all of a sudden eating potato chips when you've been abstinent for a year. Plus, everytime I've been in one, I witness a lowly worker being chastised by a manager.

Mr. Gray was warned that he will pay the consequences later for making me go in there.

I do the same with Mr. Arikara when he wants to go there. I lecture him all the way there about cheap crap made in sweatshops, low LOW wages, mistreatment and no benefits for the workers, towns full of family stores forced to shut down... then I sit in the car while he's shopping. When he comes out I carry on some more.

He thinks long and hard before he makes a trip to the evil empire because he pays for it big time. I keep meaning to make up some leaflets so that I can leaflet car windows while he's shopping but the fact is he so dreads going there with me now that it only happens about once a year.

I think he sneaks over every now and then though because I still come across those insipid smiley bags occasionally.

41. Next step ... Send a copy of this thread to Wally World home office.

Obviuosly this guy was too arrogant and too pompous to care what you thought about his store's political stance.

Did this happen in a Florida Wal-Mart by any chance? It's obvious their local management still has a long way to go in learning how to deal with the public. Your episode with this asshole comes on the heels of another recent event that points out how Wal-Mart could not care less about their customers, only the profit they can make from them.

Link: http://www.tampabays10.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=22528

This is the story about the black man who Wal-Mart wanted arrested because he was there to pick up some gift cards for his employer. He did the right thing after he left their store. He went to their competitor (Target) and purcashed over thirteen thousand dollars worth of cards there instead.

Point is, by his actions this manager is just proclaiming loudly that the corporate apologies that were issued in the Tampa screw-up were just the usual Wal-Mart lip service and that they will go on with business as usual.

you could make copies of the flyers on Justicefornone.com and stick them in the pockets, in the restrooms, in the carts. I don't go to WM but I do that in other stores. If U put them in carts, stick them under the flap in the kiddie seats, they won't fly away then.

in fact, every time i go somewhere i make sure i have my supply of flyers.

54. Agree w/most - if you spent, you lost.....
Give doing business with the 'little-guy' a try. It might cost more, but most small business owners will absolutely bend over backwards to earn and retain you as a customer. Plus, you know who you are dealing with and they care.
