1. the problem, IMO, is that it's a passive negative statement
it's sort of the same thing as repug lite.

The Dems have got to stop being passive, and take the fight to the rethugs. Also, they must find it in themselves to start speaking the truth again. Sens Reid and Byrd have taken up that quest, now we'll see if the others follow.

2. Look back on this
A lot was done when Dem. had all the power which it seems to go with. Laws were put in to stop it and I am sure the GOP helped put them in. All power in one group makes for evil things going on. Also many people seem to have missed the point of the Govt. having to check each other and it being a good way to run a govt. if you want to watch what they are doing. Some think a President can do no wrong like having our Kings back once more. I also think that most was known but no one heard what was said. The men were in the country that took down WTC and alot was known about them but Bush was vacationing or may be they all were.

3. May be better to turn it into
some kind of positive affirmation, i.e. "Trust Dems with your civil rights...", or "We will respect your 4th Amendment rights--trust us". SG

7. Oh I agree with you there
but they have ME so spooked I don't trust anybody in a three-piece suit anymore.

I am beginning to think that politics, by its very nature is evil.

Does that mean I'm an anarchist, I wonder? Because my students will think that is cool.

But I haven't had my coffee yet and I might mellow enough to let Howard Dean into my world by ten o'clock.

10. Okay, I LOVE
one nation under surveillance...your best so far.

Seriously, I have wondered about our words here and where they go. I post under a name that could probably be traced pretty easily. And I put my real picture and stuff up on the lounge all the time.

Maybe I should go a bit more incognito. I actually wonderered if some RW parents might figure out this is me and I would have trouble at work. (I teach.)

Now, if THAT isn't paranoid, I don't know what is.

15. you really do have to be very careful about your identity online
we've had a few DU'ers outed by freakers and a few personal details disclosed on the boards to their personal pain.

and knowing that the neoCONs have unleashed the NSA on us (they have the worlds largest and fastest computer farms in the world) we need to be even more careful.

thats not being paranoid, just informed :hi:

19. Do you know if I changed my online name
whether or not I could keep my posting count? I'd hate to have to go through the whole "you're a freeper" schtick with the low post count.

11. Representative government has it's own flaws as well
In a republic, a relatively small number of people are empowered to make decisions that affect everybody. They fight and maneuver, and deals are made or broken. You have less than a thousand decision makers in Congress that is most likely thousands of miles away from most Americans determining whether those people are entitled to rights or whether their sons and daughters should be thrown away in the meatgrinder known as war.

The average citizen is relegated to nothing more than a passive roll choosing who gets to make decisions, not be allowed to also make decisions as well. At least in Switzerland, people can directly challenge legislative action, recall politicians, and even introduce their own legislation through referenda if they can get enough signatures on a petition.

16. The GOP: "A Secret Government Spying on the People"
Cheney's Energy Task Force is kept completely SECRET, but they can listen to your telephone conversations without even telling a court. What's wrong with this picture?

It's the fascism, stupid!

20. As inspiring as "US doesn't torture" from Rice (and as credible)
Sorry, but once the machine in place, I won't believe anyone with the keyhole won't feel tempted to peek.
