Flashback to 92 Dem Convention
"Don't stop thinkin' about tomorrow". Remember Bill and Hil-Al and Tipper dancing by the podium? Remember how optimistic we felt? Have we lost that optimism? I pray not.

1. I worry that we have...
But we can get it back. We need leaders who will SPEAK UP for us.

2. That we do
But who? Wes? Dr Dean? We seem a rudderless ship in perilous waters.

4. Keep your eye on Russ Feingold
He tore the Dear Leader a new one on Saturday morning after Nero admitted authorizing potentially illegal wiretaps. He reminded the nation, "We have a President - we don't have a king."

8. Funny you should mention Sen Feingold
I hadn't thought much of him 'till RevCheesehead replied to a post of mine in The Loungehttp://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4455641#4455684
Lots of Lounge fluff, true, but see Post 9. Good group.

3. Seems as though the crushing doom of George the boy idiot has
dampened our spirits and trampled our right and crushed our morale a lot. There will never be another Bill and Hillary/Al and Tipper type happiness in our lifetimes, it seems. I'm sorry. I just don't think anyone that great will come along again for some time. We can't run Bill again and Al has decided to be all statesman-like and not run again, unfortunately. Sigh.

5. If you keep looking backward, that's part of the problem
From now on, keep looking forward. America's best days will come after we get a Democrat in the White House to replace Nero and start undoing all the damage he's inflicted on us.

10. Well, duh(with all due respect)
But forward to what? Who? What leader will come forward as Bill did? By "leader" I don't mean a dictator like *, but someone who'll galvanize ALL Dems and, maybe, moderate Pukes into a formidable coalition.

15. So, let's draft Gore, with Hillary as VP, and we'd have the same
couples on stage! :-) Just a bit older...

6. I didn't get to see it
since I wasn't political back than and at that time both my parents were republicans. Is there any way to view it online? I have the 2000 convent and I loved that. *sigh*

7. Flashback to the years before
Bush was in office, Reagan had just retired, the deficit was through the roof, wages has been declining for a decade, the president and former president were under investigation for treason and supporting terrorists, America's reputation abroad was in the toilet, we had Dan Quayle a heartbeat away from the presidency. Even the Reagan supporters were claiming that America's best years were behind us.

Then we had eight years of Clinton.

I'm an optimist.

11. How about........"Won't get Fooled Again"?
We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

13. Gore should run and use Emminem's "Without Me" as a theme
Guess whos back, back again/ Shadys back, tell a friend/ Guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back/ Guess who's back...

snip

Now this looks like a job for me so everybody just follow me/ cuz we need a little controversy, cuz it feels so empty without me

I don't know, somehow that works for me. :-)

14. optimism is only justified when we act on our pessimism
about current conditions. Beware, "optimism/pessimism" is another oversimplified duality foisted on us by the usual conservative suspects. Without the negative power of analysis and disassembly, we cannot identify what ails us. And we need to do that before replacing it with our own program we can be optimistic about. Know how dark it is before you decide how many lightbulbs you'll need.
