2. To Senator Boxer, done!
Dear Barbara,

I'm writing to ask that you and Dianne take steps to impeach Mr. Bush. Today, he announced to the world that he has committed an impeachable crime against the American people in ordering the military to spy on them, in clear violation of the Fourth Amendment.

I have always admired your courage and I rely on that courage to move forward with holding this administration to account for their crimes against the American people.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Ferrari

6. To Senator Feinstein, done!
Dear Senator Feinstein,

Today, Mr. Bush announced to the world that he is in violation of his oath of office and that he intends to continue to be so. In using NSA to spy on American citizens, he has clearly violated the 4rth Amendment.

I ask that you move to have Mr. Bush impeached. This Congress has let him slide on horrible breaches through out his tenure. I am asking you to hold him accountable and hold him accountable now. There are people every day at risk in Baghdad AND Biloxi on Mr. Bush's watch. This last attack on the Constitution is the very last straw.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Ferrari

8. To the most effective statesman in these United States, Nancy Pelosi
Dear Nancy,

I am so proud that your are my congressional representative. Especially in the last few weeks, you and Mr. Murtha have been instrumental in changing the vehicle and the tenor of our national conversation on the debacle in Iraq.

Today, I am requesting that, in light of Mr. Bush's self confessed breach of his oath of Office to protect and defend the Constitution, you move to impeach this man for a scofflaw. Last time I looked, we still had a Fourth Amendment.

I know that my peers and associates all over the country will be calling upon their Representatives to do the same. We have lived through 9/11, through a brutal needless war that has so far left thousands dead and thousands more wounded. We daily live with the shame that our government practices rendition and torture as a matter of policy. We daily live with the shame that thousands of our fellow Americans are struggling in the dead of winter in tents on the ravaged Gulf Coast -- forgotten apparently, by Mr. Bush once the cameras went away.

That's enough. Please move to impeach George W. Bush.

91. Here's what I wrote Craig
Dear Senator Craig,
Yesterday Bush admitted to spying domestically. There are laws against what he did, and he did not go to the AG, he chose to do this illegally. He is not a king, nor an emperor. He swore to uphold the constitution - he broke his oath with this action.

I believe it is time to look at impeachment. He is a danger to what America stands for, what our forefathers built, and what I pledged my allegience to. You cannot uphold the constitution on one hand and allow Bush to do what he wishes against the constitution on the other.

I am disgusted with the current administration and your stand on the Patriot Act has given me hope in what is beginning to look hopeless. Please stand up for the constitution - this is above and beyond party lines - this is an attack on the very thing that made us such a great nation.

Thank you for reading this,
XXXX XXXX

27. To my US House Rep -
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 12:07 AM by Skip Intro
a bushbot so far, but maybe there's a breaking point?

---------

Dear Representative Brown,

I am moved to speak out at this point. Enough is enough.

This nation's Constitution is not a mere piece of paper for the Bush administration to cut to its desire - it is the law of the land, it is the fabric of this nation.

I am appalled by the flagrant disregaurd this administration has shown for the very things which make this nation great. This administration is not above the law, to the contrary, they have sworn to uphold the law.

In America, the government does not spy on its people.

I am writing to you to express my outrage, and to ask you to convey such sentiment, as my representative. I further ask you to remember that your loyalty is to the people, not only the people you represent directly, but, as a US House Representatvie, the people of the entire nation.

We are better than this, Representative Brown. It is time to stand up.

Thank you.

-----------

Looking up my Senators now....

48. Here is my letter to Lisa Murkowski
thanking her for her stand on the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act and alluding to the surveillance. Should I hit her with another one?

Dear Senator Murkowski,

Thank you so much for your courageous stand against renewal of the USA P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act in its present form. I know you must have taken a lot of heat from your fellow Republicans for standing with the Democrats, but it was the right thing to do, particularly in light of the recent revelations of the Bush administration's warrantless and illegal surveillance of US citizens for the past five years. I believe Congress needs to stay particularly vigilant at this time in our history when it appears that our freedoms may be more threatened by forces within our own government than by foreign influences. Please keep up the good work and thank you again for voting your conscience rather than the party line.

Sincerely, Blue_in_AK

I just wanted to give Lisa a pat on the back, because her co-senator from Alaska is Uncle Ted Stevens, who was one of the nine senators who voted against McCain's antitorture bill, and who has a ton of seniority over her. With this rubber-stamp Republican Congress I think it's important that we encourage any one of them that dares to defy the majority, especially if they're coming out from under the shadow of someone as entrenched and intransigent as old Ted.

70. Sent to Sens. Levin and Stabenow as well as Rep. Upton
Dear <legislator>

I am saddened that I should have to write this letter. The recent announcement by President Bush, that he directed the NSA to spy on U.S. citizens without judicial review or warrant, clearly upsets me. The declared War on Terror is insufficient reason for any Executive to assume any such power to spy on U.S. citizens without warrant. I beleive it is the duty of the President to uphold and protect our Constitution.
I believe deliberate corrective action needs to be taken to end both, the usurption of power by President Bush as well as the erosion of our civil liberties. These corrective actions should count impeachment as one of the possibilities for action. I suspect that you will receive more learned responses to the President's declared actions, but none more disappointed by the course this would set for the United States of America. Thank you for giving this your attention.

Hopefully,
My name here

I will try to get a handwritten version mailed out to Rep. Upton's local office later today.

71. My letter
Dear Mr Goodlatte,

I really hope you look at this issue not as a Republican but as an American. I along with many others feel that what President Bush has done is in direct contradiction of the US Constitution. I realize that the war on terror requires some special tactics but disreguarding the Constitution is not one of them. In fact I say that throwing the Constitution out whether for spying or torture makes us no better than those we are supposedly at war with. I urge you to please make a stand on the right side of this issue and that side is the side that the Constitution allows for.

Thank you for your time,

Kent Moore
Roanoke Va.

for some background Mr Goodlatte is a rubberstamp Republican so I tried to tailor my email to him as such. It won't really do much good but I feel better having sent it.

80. Listening in without a warrant isn't just impolite, it's a felony.
Listening in without a warrant isn't just impolite, it's a felony.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode50/usc_sec...

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (USC Title 50 Chapter 36 Subchapter 1) specifically prohibits the government from doing what the President has secretly ordered and it is a serious felony with major penalties.

The penalties are severe, up to 5 years and $10,000 per count. The President has admitted to reauthorizing this violation of the law 30 separate times and thousands of phone calls have been intercepted.

The President has publically confessed to this felony on national television. He ordered government agencies to engage in spying on thousands of American citizens without a warrant when the Congress made specific provisions in law to cover all circumstances, even emergency situations so that the gov't could listen in for up to 72 hours before obtaining a warrant, plenty of time to find and convince a judge.

There is no excuse for this action, yet the President has done so anyways.

That the President has colluded with others to do so, also makes this a conspiracy subject to fine and imprisonment up to 5 years per count under USC TITLE 18 PART I CHAPTER 19 § 371.

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_se...

That he has chosen to hide it from the public, the Congress, law enforcement agencies, and the Courts through secret findings and secret orders may also be a case for obstruction of justice under USC TITLE 18 PART I CHAPTER 73 § 1512 paragraph (b).

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_sup...

Did anyone ever see the movie "The Firm"? I think we've just found the way to shut down the firm of Berndini, Lambert & Locke.

The time has come for Prosecutor Fitzgerald to step forward and finally take the gloves off.

It is time for the Congress to convene impeachment hearings.

95. Here's mine
Dear Congressman Camp,

I am disheartened and disgusted to have to write this letter to you. I am deeply troubled by recent admissions by President Bush that he has allowed the NSA to monitor certain U.S. citizens without any type of oversight or institutional checks and balances. And he has said he will continue to do so, which is even more upsetting.

I am not an attorney, but this strikes me as being in violation of several laws, and/or, the U.S. Constitution. And even if this is not illegal, which seems to me to be doubtful, it clearly is a violation of the ideals of democracy, the spirit of the Constitution and our founding fathers, and the trust of the people placed in their leaders. This is not what is supposed to happen in a democratic state. It harkens back to the days of Nixon, Watergate, and enemy lists.

I am asking that this process of spying on our own citizenry be stopped immediately. I am also asking that you move to launch an investigation into how this happened and levy appropriate consequences. In my mind this is something that is an impeachable offense and I would also ask that you keep that option in mind when you investigate this further. I am not willing to accept anything less than an open investigation into this and consequences for these actions. I appreciate your time in this and look forward to seeing a fast resolution to this very worrisome matter.

Sincerely,

Giant Robot

Dear Senator Bayh;

I am very deeply concerned and upset about the President spying on the American people in violation of the Constitution, in specific the 4th admendment and laws passed by Congress. This man who would be dictator has run roughshod over our Costitution, going so far as to call it, "Just a Goddamned piece of paper".

I want something done about this.

It is time to remove this man from office, for the sake of the republic.

Thank you very much.

Dear Jan,

I am contacting you today because I have been reading reports that the President has authorized surveillance of American Citizens without the oversight of the Courts. I believe that this is an affront to the American Public and the Constitution. If we can no longer rely upon the protections granted by that document the terrorists have won. I see no reason why the president could not have gone through the proper channels to secure this intelligence. I find this to be another example of the lack of respect this administration has shown for those they serve and the principles that make this country great. The aspect that I find most disturbing is that he does this under the guise of National Security. I find fault with this logic because then anything he does may fall under the same category. In essence the administration could completely suspend the bill of rights under this faulty logic.
In conclusion I hope that you will stand up for our rights and let our leaders know that this type of activity will not be condoned by congress. I have read many opinions from my fellow citizens that seem to think that this is an impeachable offense. I would say at this point at least censure is called for. Please raise the call for investigations and support any action deemed necessary upon conclusion of such. If I can help you in anyway please let me know

Thank you for considering my opinions

In conclusion I hope that you will stand up for our rights and let our leaders know that this type of activity will not be condoned by the Senate. I have read many opinions from my fellow citizens that seem to think that this is an impeachable offense. I would say at this point at least censure is called for. Please raise the call for investigations and support any action deemed necessary upon conclusion of such. If I can help you in anyway please let me know

Thank you for considering my opinions

Terry Reed

118. done, going to write a tweaked version for Senator Wyden
Dear Congressman Blumenauer,

I am writing to in regard to Mr. Bush's recent confession that he has authorized the NSA to illegally spy domestically on US citizens. This outragious admission is but the latest of a long list of violations of the Constitution & outright illegal behavior from this administration.

How much more abuse can the Republic stand? Does our Constitution even exist anymore?

I served in the Naval Reserves, my husband served 7 years active duty Navy, & my father served in the belly of a B-24 over Normandy during WWll. We all swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and this Nation. Our Nation is in grave danger BECAUSE of the madman and his henchmen that occupy the Oval Office.

Please, I ask you to insist upon the immediate impeachment of Mr. Bush. He can plea his case for why he feels that he is above the law at the impeachment hearings.

Repectfully,

XXXXXXXXXX

Area of Interest: Civil Rights
Correspondence: What are you doing about the Bush Admin. domestic surveillance that was conducted secretly and without appropriate legal authority? Is this a Republic or a Monarchy?

130. Wyden & Smith
I copied Walt's letter:

I am writing to express my concern over the president's admission on December 17, 2005, to violations of the law over thirty times since September 11, 2001 and, in complete disregard for the law, his assertion that he will continue to violate the law.

I cite for your convenience, those portions of the United States Code the president has flagrantly and blatantly admitted to violating over thirty times:

TITLE 50--WAR AND NATIONAL DEFENSE

CHAPTER 36--FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE

SUBCHAPTER I--ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE

§ 1802. Electronic surveillance authorization without court order; certification by Attorney General; reports to Congressional committees; transmittal under seal; duties and compensation of communication common carrier; applications; jurisdiction of court

§ 1804. Applications for court orders

§ 1805. Issuance of order

§ 1806. Use of information

§ 1807. Report to Administrative Office of the United States Court and to Congress

§ 1808. Report of Attorney General to Congressional committees; limitation on authority or responsibility of information gathering activities of Congressional committees; report of Congressional committees to Congress

The sanctions for such crimes are covered here:

§ 1809. Criminal sanctions

I am further concerned that the president, the (at the time) National Security director, and other officials may be liable under this portion of the United states code:

§ 1810. Civil liability.

According to this portion of the United States code, Congress must declare war in order for the president to do what Bush did, and it limits the time period to just fifteen days:

§ 1811. Authorization during time of war

Please address these concerns. No president is above the law. George W. Bush is a president, not a king.

Sincerely,
