``We have a president, not a king" (More Feingold on CNN)
Bush said U.S. authorities need a variety of ways to keep terrorists from attacking Americans and called the wiretaps a ``vital tool.'' He said he has reauthorized the program, which requires a review every 45 days, more than 30 times.

``We have a president, not a king, and that's the way he's talking,'' Feingold said in an interview with CNN. ``What he's doing, I believe, is illegal. And it's really quite a shocking moment in the history of our country.''

Feingold said the president isn't willing to compromise on the legislation. ``It's a sad day when the president of the United States is trying to play politics with our national security,'' Feingold told CNN.

6. I Think He's Running For President
And his campaign is going to be to add accoutability to the Oval Office. I would love to see Feingold as President.

But, I don't think the DLC wants that, they want some one more moderate. And of course, Senator's voting records are too easy for opponents to manipulate for their own advantage.

No, the DLC will want some one like Mark Warner (who curiously enough, I also like) and mabye offer Feingold the VP slot. But Feingold doesn't strike me as one who would take that position.

7. Feingold is an interesting blend who appeals to moderates
He is extremely fiscally responsible, ethical, believes in a strong defense eventhough he never supported invading Iraq. He is very non-partisan and is in many ways a uniter and forms coalitions for specific purposes that cross party lines. WI is a pretty practical independent group and tends to be moderate (purple)but Feingold got the highest percentage of votes ever for a candidate in WI in 2004.

12. Yeah, It's Funny About Feingold
You look at his voting record and he really is pretty Liberal. It is hard to think of the issues on which he's really a moderate*. I think it is more his demeanor and approach. I haven't followed him too closely, but it doesn't seem like he engages in partisan bickering and name calling. In some ways, I think he is the counter part to John McCain - his facade leads people to think he is more moderate than his voting record would indicate. Feingold seems more principled than McCain, but then he hasn't gotten nearly the media coverge McCain has so is probably under the radar of all but the leadership of both parties.

* I know, he favors fiscal responsibility/blanced budget - but I think Feingold would sooner pay for social programs through raising taxes than reducing social programs to fund tax cuts. So, after the spin cycle is done, he's just another "tax and spend liberal" - the moderate label is washed away.

4. Way to go Russ!!!
My late father, who was once Chair of Wausau, WI Dem Committee, would be proud of Sen. Feingold.

Sen. Feingold is near the top of my Prez list. Gore has my #1 spot, but should Al not run, Russ will get my enthusiastic support for Prez in 2008 right now.

5. Bush has given himself more power than a King
in many ways.

In English history the King's powers were always limited by certain bounds. When King Charles tried to take on too much power to himself the English Parliament fought against him (leading to the English Revolution - which didn't last very long - but that's another story).

10. Magna Carta
It was actually King John who signed the Magna Carta putting the King under the rule of law in 1215. I realize that it took many generations for it to take hold, but that is when it started.
