BBC: Bush admits he authorised spying (and blasts the NYT)
Last Updated: Saturday, 17 December 2005, 15:39 GMT

Bush admits he authorised spying

President George W Bush has admitted he authorised secret monitoring of communications
within the United States in the wake of the 2001 terror attacks.

In his weekly address, he confirmed a report which appeared in the New York Times on Friday
- and attacked it.

Because of the newspaper report, "our enemies have learned information they should not have",
he said.

He said the programme was reviewed every 45 days, and insisted he had upheld the law in
defending Americans.

8. Ignorance is Strength
The American people have no need and no right to know what their government is doing.

Only pathetic, pimply left-wing weenies support the Bill of Rights, which is totally irrelevant anyway.

If we Stay the Course, choco-rations will be increased 2 mg. per citizen-consumer unit.

3. What he really means
Because of the newspaper report, "our enemies have learned information they should not have",
he said.

What he really means of course is that American citizens have learned information they shouldn't have.

4. "our enemies"?????
Sounds to me like he meant liberals/progressives and any American concerned about privacy and civil liberties-because they are the ones who are outraged by this behavior.

7. He sure thinks highly of the executive branch policing itself.
Seems to think that's not only good enough but, the ideal situation, since well, he's in charge of it.

And... um, people...

"upheld the law"?... show me the law that authorizes what Bush authorized. Show me what statute authorizes it. Please. I want to know.
