The War on Christmas.....
....will be no different than that on the 24th or 26th, other than the entire ruination of what was once a miraculous eternal holiday for families who lose a member that day.Let's keep our eye on the ball,People...For 2100 American families and 100,000 Iraqi families there is little to celebrate this year....and for the families of the 20,000 plus Americans and only God knows how many Iraqis, any "blessings" of the season will be mixed...Remember this and say a prayer every time you hear about a "war" on Christmas this year-at least prayers don't do any harm to us....

4. I, Personally...
...HATE seeing the term "war" being used so cheaply while real people are really dying for what really turns out to be bullshit. Then to take the word "war" and apply it to what at best is a media inspired fundamentalist boycott of retailers and at worst the fevered dream of sicko Bill O'Reily makes me want to puke....All I want to say is if ANY of these clowns are right about a judgment by a supreme being, they should hide under their beds repenting instead of looking for rating gains...every airing of terms like War on Christmas should legally be required to show photos of IED (by the way-last time we referred to them as "booby traps") caused traumatic amputees in order to properly weigh the evidence of whether or not a "war" is being waged....

2. I was going to to tell you to ignore the
war on Christmas because it's really not an issue if you ignore it, but here I am responding.
But only to tell you it's what YOU make it and feel. Enjoy please!
Don't let anyone anytime anywhere dictate how you should feel or think about anything, and especially the Happy Holy Holiday/Christmas/Hannukah/etc. All that stuff happens at the same time; it's difficult to separate them.

5. You, and BabylonSister above are both right...
...and I intend to enjoy the season...with family, and love, and gifts, and food. But as I said in my original post, we need to keep our eyes on the ball and to call out the media on their misuse of words....is it a "war" on Christmas....No....A battle FOR christmas....NO...A disagreement about the best terminology for Christmas...MAYBE...or most likely,a media ploy...DEFINITELY....in point of fact I know no one of good intent who has ever objected to anyone who wished them well on any holiday whether or not they observed it...But unfortunately this year there will be at least one war on Christmas and as for biblical invocations on that one, I cannot surpass the shortest verse in the bible "Jesus wept"...

7. Distort, distract, create false issues
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 03:34 AM by antishrub
in order to divert the attention of the sheeple from the real issues...

outsourcing...

middle class wage stagnation...

huge increases in wealth at the top of the pyramid...

8 trillion dollar debt...

huge annual deficits...

lack of job creation...

45 million Americans uninsured...

devastation caused by Katrina and lack of federal response...

cost, in lives and dollars, of the immoral war...

In onther words, Bush's TRUE legacy

9. can you stand one more War on Christmast story?
seems this is a 'hot topic' in my neck of the woods. Had to stop by my partner's workplace last night. She works in a law firm. One of the para-legals remarked about how she thought it was 'awful' that store clerks weren't allowed to say Merry Christmas

:sigh: couldn't keep my mouth shut... I asked her where the spirit of Christmas exists? Is it in her heart, her soul or just words? Then I pointed out store clerks/cashiers were instructed to say "Happy Holidays" so it's inclusive of all the celebrations at this time of year.

Consider this - you work for minimum wage in a store, your boss says you have to say "Happy Holidays" (or whatever) -- do you do it and risk being reprimanded or fired if you don't say it? So the "sincerity" and heart-felt expression of Happy Holidays is gone. You are only saying Happy Holidays (or whatever) out of fear of losing your job and therefore it meaningless.

For me - a clerk/cashier being ordered to say a particular phrase does not enhance nor diminish my feelings and ability to express the holiday. It's meaningless unless such an expression is said from the heart and not from fear.

Since she's a Christian - would she be upset of a clerk/cashier was instructed to say "Happy Hanukkah"?
