shoptodropbush freeped
Late Sunday I put up - an affiliate marketting site. I posted here, to a small group of my friends, and to a few news groups (BIG MISTAKE!!!)

The site had gotten about ten hits so far today, until I just checked, and were 380 unique visitors to the site in the last hour. that may not be much for a sight like DU, but for a brand new site, it seemed impressive.

So I went to the site to see what kind of email I'd gotten, and it was nothing but freeper stuff - most of it impunging my sanity and patriotism, and some of it telling me the authors would be contacting the companies on my site to tell them they would never spend any of their thousands of dollars at that story again.

I don't know how organized these guys are, or how much impact they will have on advertizors. But it sure would help if some of "the good guys" could help me 1) get word out to other progressives about this site, and 2) buy something from the on-line merchants, or at least send them supportive emails saying you will be doing your christmas shopping from them.

Early today i posted to the moderators, asking them to suggest how DU could use a "big" donation - I'm hoping to have at least $1,000 to give to this section of the cause.

thanks for listening.

1. You are
going to pay yourself 10% of the 1st million, and 5% on the rest, which is 9 mln ( since you plan to raise 10 mln ). You mean it "costs" you 550.000 dollars to run that site ?????

3. honestly
I haven't thought all that much about what I'll make from the site. I'm finishing my PhD in social work, working on a couple of books, and would love to have a year or two to write. I'm not willing to do it for free, and so the question is how much to pay myself.

Fundraisers typically take 10% to 40% (from what I hear) for their efforts. If we raise 10 million dollars that would otherwise not be raised, and I get 555,000 for doing it, that still seems like we are way ahead off where we would be if I wasn't doing this.

that's my basic thinking. we'll be better off raising a ton of money to defeat bush, and me getting a small cut of that, than us not raising the money.

2. Interesting.Wish I'd thought of it.
You had better get used to freepers, that's all I can say.

Did you do due diligence for the FEC?
They will be wanting to talk with you.

4. Dean was my inspiration
or more honestly, the people powered aspect of Dean. I'm waiting to see how much we make before worrying about the FEC. I plan to make initial donations to DU, and then to the DNC, and then Moveon.org.

Of course, if the Freepers have their way, there won't be too much money to spread around.

Time will tell.

Thanks for your support.

5. Going to bookmark the site, but the green lettering below is WAY
hard to focus on, it hurts my head to try and read it :( Maybe I'm just too old (47). Also, the really small lettering early on..

Thanks though! I will try to refer and use it!

6. well first of all
I can't believe they approved you with a political site, most advertisers stay way out of it.

second: looks like one big, giant scam. Not saying it is, but if a freeper did it we'd think the same. No way of verifying anything and what you're doing is most likely illegal. You can't just say I'll donate this and that, there are rules that govern political fundraisers.

If I was you, I would take the site down before worst things happen.
