How can America repair her World Image? Charge, Try, Convict and Punish

the people responsible for invading a sovereign country, kidnapping foreign nationals, using chemical weapons and violating international human rights laws.

The American people need to take responsibility and show that we want to be good world citizens and will not tolerate terrorism even when it is orchestrated by one of our own. We need to campaign and vote for people who will work to not only move this country off of the tracks to fascism and the destruction of the American middle class. We need to keep doing the things we do here at DU such as sharing information and evidence of the subversions to law and Constitution that are now status quo rather than crime. We need to show the world that America is a country of Americans and we are all not Oil Barons or political whores.

Our current Government has been bought and paid for. It's time to end PACs and rewrite election laws to assure that it will be more difficult than ever for money to influence elections.

America is a wonderful country founded on wonderful ideals. We're just a little lost today and with a little luck and a lot of work, we just might avoid being known in the future as the 100 year Empire.

By what legal mechanism do you propose doing all of this?

2. It could be done pretty much within today's legal system.

Charge them, impeach them, arrest them and try them in a court of law.

3. Impeach who? How?

The numbers are not even close to being there for a successful impeachment, much less a conviction in the Senate.

What charges do you propose?

Their poll numbers are already falling. 2006 is less than a month away and there will ba a lot of seats changed. Hell only today, Bush pretty much confessed.

5. Again...what are the specific crimes and where do you think the votes are

The repubs control the house and senate. Maybe that changes in 2006 for one or even both bodies, but only by the slightest of margins. If repubs are defeated in 2006 and 2008, the reason will be that the voters want to move forward and are persuaded that the Democrats can do that. If the Democrats turn around and, instead of addressing our national security and our economy, the voters will abandon them more quickly than you can imagine.

Yeah, it sucks that Bushco will not be held accountable in the way that you describe. But that's the plain reality of the situation. If the Democrats are to regain control of the government (or even a part of the government) its not going to be through a backwards looking campaign of retribution. The public will want to forget this sorry mess rather than wallow in it.
