Poll question: When a mod makes a bigoted, prejudicial post, do you call them on it?
When a moderator makes a bigoted post at DU, do you call them on it, or do you sit and stew, because you are afraid the mod will have it in for you and ban you?

1. If I saw something like that I would call them on it
and perhaps alert as well, so other mods could be made aware.

I finished mine just in time, as usual. :D

Hopefully I can go to sleep before the Sun comes up today!

4. I'd contact EarlG and Skinner ASAP...
When anyone is banned, the banned poster has the right to appeal the tombstoning to the Administrators. If someone is banned merely because of personal differences with a particular moderator, I feel confident in saying that the Admins would likely side with the poster, and not the moderator.

8. I like DU's rules. I don't like the fact that some mods break DU's rules.
When they post something bigoted and controversial, they are breaking Skinner's rule on mod behavior. Got it?

11. Cut me a break
I have been here almost the entire life of DU, and I have seen MANY decisions by the mods I didn't care for.

Don't tell Maddy to go somewhere else....if you have nothing constructive to add to the conversation except a snarky comment, then don't post on the thread, or put it on "ignore."

20. The entire point of DU is to engage in discussion, and learn something new
There are many things I've seen on DU that I don't agree with, but I either post my opinion or choose to ignore it. Going elsewhere is not a constructive choice.

9. Mebbe just write them to gently get clarification, in case you have
misunderstood. Prolly how we ought to treat each other, too, rather than flaming instantly.

12. I would hit alert
and write a snarky note that would be talked about in the mod forum for a freaking week.

I just wouldn't do it in public.

THEN when I was really good and pissed off, write the note?

13. I hit alert, because I know the moderator will see the alert. A while
back I had a problem with a mod who was acting pompous and participating in flame wars. Hard as it was, during the primary wars, I steered clear of the Dean/Kerry/Clark/Kucinich threads. :hi:

17. Of course, my friend. Otherwise, what's the point in belonging to DU?
But I think that the mods are generally good choices, and not the hotheads of this forum. So I've never seen anything that concerned me. But I'm pretty tolerant, since I'm a liberal, after all, LOL! I've been on DU since early 2003 and think I have hit alert 3X, and it's only been for extremely blatant disruptors.

18. Hey! You've come a long way in your graphics in your sig!
That is the cutest thing I've ever seen. :D

Yeah, generally, the mods ARE good, and their job is thankless. However, I "talk back" when a mod posts something with which I don't agree.

22. Thank you, my friend! And you'll remember my little dog, who is snoring
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 07:52 AM by Rhiannon12866
behind me, in my chair, as I type this, LOL! And, of course, you'd think I've come a long way, since you were kind enough to post my first-ever pic of my dogs, for me, since I couldn't do it myself! But I'm not responsible for the improvement to my sig line. I have a very talented friend, also from DU, who did it for me. He also posted on this thread...;)

And I think that it's in the nature of those who would choose to join DU to "talk back," don't you? I agree that the job of mods is a thankless one and I sure appreciate their hard work. They've been very kind to me, so I may be prejudiced. But if I saw bad behavior by anyone, I'd still hit alert, though, as I said, I'm pretty tolerant. The first time I ever hit alert, I also PM'd a mod that I happened to know, asking if I'd done the right thing, LOL!:D

25. Locking.
The proper course of action if you have concerns about a moderator is to contact the administrators by going here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/contact.html

Starting a thread such as this is inappropriate and doesn't address the problem.
