Poll: U.S. can win war, but won't
As Bush prepares to make his final speech on the strategy for winning the war in Iraq, a recent poll indicates that fewer people are opposed to the U.S. presence there, but they don't think the U.S. is winning the effort.

Forty-eight percent of those polled said they thought it was a mistake to send U.S. troops to Iraq, as opposed to 54 percent of those polled last month.

Fifty percent said it was not a mistake, compared to 45 percent last month.

Despite an apparent surge in approval for sending troops to Iraq, those polled said they don't believe that the U.S. is winning the war. Of those polled, 49 percent said neither side is winning the war, 13 percent said the insurgents are winning and 36 percent said the United States is winning.

2. these tards think a poll change is enough
to go with - the conclusion to reach is that they've convinced the electorate, so "stay the course" - no change in policy is needed. My butt feels warm, but I find no sign of a handbasket, how bout you ?

we are winning....personally I would like a new hardwood floor to replace my shitty carpet, or better yet, a vacation with my husband away from the kids.....

Democracy is not a door prize to be handed out like candy - it has to be fought and wanted by the people who wish it for their society...please tell me what area in the Middle East has a true democracy and is this what the Iraqi people really wanted?

5. Only 36% of Americans think we are winning the war
But, 50% think it was a good idea to go to war?

50% for Bush to 48% for us.

Yet, i'm skeptical. Coming from Gallup, i'd like to see the internals. Which, as we know, has a tendency to skew for the Republicans at very convienient times.

Yet, an interesting footnote to this poll: 64% of people want the US to withdraw all or most troops in the near future. (Obviously it's buried way in there).
