Yes we discuses life and death issues here. Yes our feelings run the gamut from detached to frothy. But for Pete's sake can we show some respect for the person if not for their views? Can't we acknowledge that a person can have two opposing views in their heads at once? I'm against the war but support our troops. I'm against the death penalty and not for criminals. I'm for the death penalty an still believe in the sanctity of life.

For days on end I have read some really harsh post on DU and yes that does include the lounge. Can we show some restraint. Count to ten, decline to be drawn in, get up and walk away and mull over our response more before we reply. After all we are on the same side here.

I am for the death penalty ethically.

BUT I don't trust the state to kill criminals.The State is too racist,biased,and corrupt.
I agree too many black people are on Death row The judges and juries are too often biased or racist.


Also I reserve the Death penalty for the repeat offenders who wheedle out of their life sentences,or get lucky and get out,or escape jail and get out and rape or kill somebody again(like an ex girlfriend/wife/lover) or who kill other prisoners unprovoked for purposes of terrorizing other inmates and domination,or for other non self defense reasons or for a prisoner who kills a guard ,counselor,P.O or visitor for non self defense reasons.Jail isn't helping these people.They are dangerous.

In some cases a high security prison apparently cannot adequately contain some kinds of ruthless criminals.And until Prisons and the Law Can contain these people I don't feel good in my own heart if they get out AGAIN and end up endangering and possibly killing more innocent people because I did not condone the state killing a criminal that prison could not hold.I feel really bad sentencing innocent people to death by the hands of a proven killer ,just to save said murderer's life so he can take more lives.The Death penalty can be applied to a free killer killing again,Citizens receive a death penalty "lotto" when the state is too lenient, and jail fails to contain certain sociopath murdering thugs.
I would feel like shit if some citizens were killed because I did not stop a killer who escaped,killed and escaped again or kills via proxy through a gang or"friends on the outside..I have to draw the line somewhere.

These debates are so heated and so polarized here ..I can't begin explain my particular reasons and the complex conditions that form the basis of my support of the Death penalty .

The issue for me concerning how I look at issues of Life and Death is NOT made in a simplistic reactive tolerance or ina simplistic reactive fear or"vengeance" It's more nuanced and complex that black or white..

But when people react around me and make me feel like an asshole for dissagreeing..I realize they don';t want discussion they want to scapegoat me for being an EVIL death penalty supporter.. So I just give up and fire back and do not offer my insights they will not hear or care about their POV that they repeat..

Life and reality is much to complicated for such things to be so simple all the time.I think most of us KNOW that.
