My Husband is at the Gates of Gitmo

http://www.counterpunch.com/stewart12122005.html

Twenty-five U.S. citizens, calling themselves Witness Against Torture, are demonstrating, fasting and praying at the gates of the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay. They marched across Cuba to get to the prison. One of them is my husband, Danny Burns.

-snip-

The federal government wants to send a message that dissent will be punished. We send a message back to the government. We will stand for justice again and again until our country respects international law, the law of justice and universal human rights.

-snip-

I find myself thinking of the mothers of those detained. What if my sons were among boys being held at the camp? If young people in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan see that American people choose to ignore the suffering of their people under occupation and illegal detention they will be more likely to feel desperate and see suicide bombings and other acts of violence as their only recourse.

-snip-

A hundred years from now we want our grandchildren to be able to look back at our actions and know that we tried to act with integrity and for the good of humanity. That is why my husband Danny Burns is at the gates of Guantanamo and that is why I support him.

2. Wow, this is truly amazing...
I am so grateful for these people.

Gitmo is a sick abomination.

I can't even believe that it exists. If someone would have told me 10 years ago--that our country would have a prison in Cuba--I would have scoffed.

Gitmo bothers me more than any other Bushennanigan.

We are treading in dangerous territory. We've set up an off-shore, secret prison environment that contains the precursors of concentration-camp conditions.

These brave protesters have my support and my admiration. I hope we hear more about how they are doing and I hope the media spotlights their heroic efforts to stop Bush's sick, fascist tactics.

6. We are holding people like they are animals..
and these are the only people who are up in arms about this. I applaud what your family is doing. It astonsihes me that more people are not sickened by the way we are treating these so called "prisoners"

14. Exactly so which I always say to others, if Jesus were alive today
he would more than likely be getting it good from the likes of Coulter and company as being too whiny, these people simply make me sick, they no longer amaze me at their ignorance...

I really hope there is a God and judgement day, for some of them, it doesn't come soon enough..

19. Whoo-hoo!
Bring light to this subject. No more phoney ass "War on Christmas." We need to talk about the war on the people! Who have by the way not been told of any such crimes. You should see the documentary on the Sundance Channel "Torture: It's Dirty Business." It'll reair at 1am est and you can check out sundancechannel.com for other airings.
