Syriana was an excellent movie
I just saw Syriana this weekend and thought it was a great movie that was able to find a way to tackle such a complex issue (oil). I recommend it highly (but don't drink any soda.... if you have to get up for a second you will be lost!)

1. We did Narnia with the grandkids (which they liked - but those that
had read the book never got the religious message before I explained it - and they liked it despite the message! :-) )

Syriana in the evening had very limited play times - and this is the Boston area - curious.

In any case we plan to see it next weekend.

5. Was the "message" as obvious as some have said?
I read the book as a kid, as has my child, and the movie looks visually quite spectacular, but if the "message" is laid on with the subtlety of Mac truck then I don't think I'll bother...

How was it handled?

6. Absolutely no heavy hand - indeed you had to know what to look fo
look for to find the message.

Just a nice kids tale of not too scary adults, kids winning the fight against evil, and four kids becoming kings and queens of Narnia.

Over the age of 4 will feel safe - and the 3 and 4 year olds around me really liked the talking animals and the good guys winning - but were quiet during the battle sceen.!

If the next 6 in the 7 book series are as well done, it is time to invest in Disney!

2. Thank you very much. I can't wait to see it. Someone here
already said it was not very good. I'm glad to hear it get a good report.

4. I thought it was great
It is very complicated and a bit confusing at first, but it hit one point where it all came together for me and I thought it was very clever. I like movies that treat the audience as intelligent people.

I thought it was very thought provoking and looked much deeper into the oil business than anything I have seen.

After we saw the movie we talked about for hours (one thing we were talking about is the fact that we can't see it playing well in many parts of the country..... I wonder how it is doing in the red states)

3. It made this list of 10 great movies of the year

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- Critics' darling "Brokeback Mountain," the upcoming effects extravaganza "King Kong" and the raucous comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" are among the 10 films that the American Film Institute has judged as the most outstanding motion pictures of the year.

7. I saw it, and I agree.
Extremely subversive, and persuasive movie. I'm impressed that it got made and distributed widely. It's proof that we are still free, sort of.

8. I loved the story line with the two brothers trying to become King
The actor who played the older brother was great.

11. I loved the way it all played out.
It was extremely impressive, the way the plots came together at the end...without getting into spoilers about it, I was in awe of the courage it took to put that out there. The interrelatedness of the fates of the characters and the way it played out was the cinematic equivalent of a molotov cocktail.

10. It was .... overwhelming
It reminded me of Fahrenheit 9/11 in a way. It's not that it covered much new territory, but it put everything together in a way that made it have the impact that it really should. Like Fahrenheit 9/11, there's big time Neocon backlash, probably from people who haven't seen the film. I know the movie is fiction, but having grown up in Houston and worked in and around the "awl bidness" for 15 years, I also know that everything in it happens all the time. Damn fine movie.

13. It's a brilliant film!
And yes. You don't want to walk away for a minute. It's not a dumbed-down film at all.
