I have a question about Tookie Williams
And it's one that probably hasnt been asked yet:

Where the fuck are the pro-lifers?

Remember when they made such a stink and practically came out of the woodwork like taking a baseball bat to a hornet's nest over the Terri Schiavo incident? Now that Tookie is a mere 24 hours away from death... where are these people? Why havent they showed up in droves? Where's Bill Frist making a bunch of false claims? Where's Tom De Lay interrupting Congress to pass a bill that only affects one person? Where are all the people denouncing activist judges? Where are these people?

1. Because Tookie still alive and conscious
Schiavo couldn't speak for herself therefore the perfect platform for their agenda....

2. True, but he's still scheduled to die tonight
Really, if the pro-lifers were actually pro-life, they'd be out in front of the governor's office in droves tonight.

11. Remember that

the legislation they were proposing during the Schiavo incident, it would have made it easier for them to contest the Supreme Court abortion issue. Tookie has no such appeal to them.

12. I heard on the radio this morning that...
Tookie could petition an appeal for the Supreme Court if 9th Circuit Court denies his appeal.

3. They're probably all busy praying
that he "repents" and registers Republican in the 11th hour. :sarcasm:

I'll be busy praying, too, but it will be for love, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity to take hold in our nation.

4. I would hope that some of the rtlifers would step up and be heard
but sadly, I fear that some feel that since the man was convicted of murder, he should die. I also fear that the race of the individual might also be a factor.

One thing I'll say is that I'll have some respect for right to lifers who also oppose this execution, because it will show they walk their talk. I still won't agree with them in regards to abortion, but I will respect them for their consistency.

5. A real answer
Is that Took Williams had a life; he had an opportunity to make decisions (and, apparently, he made some bad ones). He had his chance. An aborted fetus did not have that chance. At least that is the thory.

6. "Pro-life" is a sloppy, imprecise label.
Pro-innocent life, maybe, or simply anti-abortion would work better. "Pro life" muddies issues like the one you raise.

9. They pick and choose their biblical quotes.
He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone is ignored.

Thou shall not kill is ignored.

An eye for an eye is endorsed.

Go figure.

14. ...and there's that little matter of murdering four people, too...
But you're probably right, it's all because he's black..

15. There's a few. I think the real pro-lifers show up whenever there is
death penalty case in the states. Those, imo, are the reasl pro-lifers.
