WAPO-GREAT GRAPHIC Showing $$$ Flowing From Abramoff to Congress
The WaPo has put together a handy graphic representation of money flowing from Abramoff to a lotta folks in Congress -- definitely worth a peek.

and worrying about the ease with which this scandal could be spun as tarring our own party?

7. It is not the tarring of the Democrats that bother me.
It IS the corruption in Washington that bothers me.
Lets get rid of ALL the crooks.

15. to ignore these Dems seems mighty hypocritical to me...
but i take your meaning to be that the presence of these dems makes all dems vulnerable -- and that's something the party leadership and we at the grassroots need to deal with.

what methods, mechanisms exist whereby to denounce ALL such dishonesty and corruption?

i also suggest that this is a real opportunity to rid Congress of as many corrupt politicians as possible through grassroots activism and real campaign reform.

I want the corrupt to get out of politics...this comes first. Otherwise we can't win regardless.

But if you look at the 35/65 split it's pretty obvious he was playing a numbers game in order to keep the appearance of legitimacy. Just because someone took a donation doesn't mean they are corrupt. And just because they aren't on this list doesn't mean they are clean.

They type of donation, the timing, and their subsequent actions around it are what need to be looked at. We need more info.

19. Ouch! It does hurt seeing some of those Dem's names, but I agree.
I would like to have some more details like you mention, but if they are guilty of corruption they need to go. Period.

27. I also want them to get to the bottom of how this happened and
write some bills that will make sure it doesn't happen again. It does no good just to get rid of the sleaze without taking the next step.

29. Lobbyist have needed more regulation for generations.
Too bad the people that write and vote for regulation are the same ones who benefit from the money. I find it hard to believe that the Democrats who took this money did not know or suspect where it came from. There is so much money how would it all be regulated? It appears to me the courts and voters will catch up with sleaze in good time. Yes I am for more regulation that would immediately end some political careers.

On another thread there is a link to a Great Falls newspaper article about Burns, they were sure to point out the dems, deszpite the huge amount Burns took. Targeting: Levin and Stabenow from this article.

http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051208/NEWS01/512080302/1002

"The fact that Conrad Burns has taken so much money from this indicted lobbyist and his associates (means) people start scratching their heads and saying, 'What's going on here?'" Singer said.

To which Burns spokesman James Pendleton responded, in sarcastic incredulity, "A senator met with lobbyists? ... And he's been meeting with them for years? Well, duh."

Indeed, the DSCC's Republican counterpart, the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, plans its own Abramoff attack plan, that will include linking prominent Democrats to Abramoff, according to The Hill newspaper.

The Republican offensive will focus on Michigan Democrats Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, two senators to whom Burns referred extensively in the papers he sent to Gonzales.

Burns' materials mostly concerned reports about his push to get $3 million so that a wealthy Michigan tribe could build a school. He points out that Levin and Stabenow initiated the move to get the federal money for the Saginaw Chippewa, whose members receive tens of thousands of dollars annually in casino money."

22. Where's the $9 million from Ghana and the Islamic banks?
Or, was the foreign money not counted, somehow, by the WaPo?

Didn't Mr. Abramoff have any other clients than Indian tribes while he was at Greenberg Traurig - sure doesn't look like it. What about the projects he carried out in conjunction with Grover Norquist and and his Islamic Institute pals?
