A friend of mine sent me a copy of her letter to the ICC. Just thought I'd share it.
Mr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, Chief Prosecutor Internatioal Criminal Court The Hague, The Netherlands Re: Request for Investigation Dear Mr. Moreno-Ocampo, I am writing the ICC today to request action onwhat approximately 70% of the American people currently believe: that George W. Bush has engaged in grave abuse of human rights, both of American citizens and citizens of various other countries, most notably Iraq. Through various secret maneuvers, such as Executive Orders, Bush, with the assistance of members of his administration, has seized powers from the Legislative and Judicial branches of the government of the United States, with the goal of subverting the balance of power of our democratic republic and transforming our 229-year-old constitutionally-based form of government into a dictatorship--without the consent of the people. I hereby charge George W. Bush with war crimes, as follows: He deliberately lied to the Congress of the United States, a treasonable act in itself, in a web of deceit participated in by his entire administration, to deceive that body into authorizing an act of war against another sovereign nation, Iraq, a nation which he knew posed no imminent danger to the United States, and which nation was not capable of, nor intending to, attack the United States. Bush's instigation of the above-described illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq, in arrogant defiance of the objection of the rest of the world's citizens, and the vehement objection of millions of American citizens, demonstrates to this day his ruthless disregard for the lives and safety of the estimated 150,000 innocent Iraqi civilian men, women and children who perished in U. S. military attacks in the last two-and-one-half years. Likewise, Bush committed equally heinous war crimes against nearly 2,000 dead and estimated 20,000 wounded American military forces and contractor personnel--whom he betrayed by sending them into harm's way in this illegal invasion of Iraq. Despite the revelation of his treacherous actions, and despite the outcry of a supermajority of ordinary American citizens demanding the immediate withdrawal of all American presence in Iraq--this most dangerous of leaders continues down his path of folly which, if he is not stopped by international action, will possibly escalate to a nuclear exchange that could threaten all life on earth. He has demonstrated an unacceptable disregard for human life in pursuit of absolute military domination--as his colleagues have mapped out in their "Project for a New American Century." I, and millions of Americans, now declare to the I.C.C.: NOT IN OUR NAME! I appeal to the I.C.C., therefore, to open an investigation into the crimes I have described, the details of which have been well documented by eyewitness reporters in Iraq, in the torture trials of American military who tortured and abused Iraqi prisoners in Abu Graib, Guantanamo and other prisons, revealed by journalists, television documentaries and scholars all over the world community. Our Congress is mired in the depths of profound corruption and has ignored our petitions for impeachment hearings of this corrupt administration, for at least four years. We, the American people, have nowhere else to turn but the I. C. C. Much has been taken away from us--our integrity, the good will of the rest of the world community; many of our sons and daughters lie cold in the ground because of the lies and betrayal of this man, George W. Bush. We have stood by and watched, powerless to obtain justice in a country whose Constitution guarantees a fair hearing for all of their grievances, whether against their government or against a private party. We have been denied the right to hold a leader accountable in a domestic court of law for his high crimes and violations of his solemnly sworn oath of office. I implore the I. C. C., on behalf of all American citizens, please act to hold George Bush accountable for his war crimes, and his crimes against humanity in general. Sincerely,
