CO-OPTING Merry Christmas by the BAH HUMBUG Party!
I know this is sort of a continuation-of yesterdays thread but I wanted to mention and reference this; http://www.rockridgeinstitute.org/projects/strategic/simple_framing/view (I think I needed a refresher course this season)

For those of you who have read the George Lakoff's "Don't Think of an Elephant" this is another case of the far right using-actually trying to Co-Opt Christmas.

and the dems-libs are being played again. Hello

There is no war on Christmas but they have somewhat succeeded once aain in making the 'dem/lib' side (when their is no side to this issue actually) play defense in another game of their dirty dodge ball.

I find my self almost compelled to call my beautifully decorated now inspite of having fallen over CHRISTMAS tree a Holiday tree, funny I never did before. What changed?
I often say Merry Christmas and send out a variety of Christmas Cards- Season Greetings often to non-Christian friends, and occasionally eveyone- just based on what struck my fancy.
I have a manger and am not anti-manger- sympathetic concerning non-public dispalys. I'm for reasonable inclusion of traditional, classical and especially fun songs christmas/ Holiday /Seasonal songs. So why do I suddenly feel the need to either apologize or defend myself?

I (and most liberals I know including non-christian friends-(by culture/religion or choice) are almost 100% on the "side" of what I sincerely consider the true meaning of Christmas- the values that Christ (according to the 'story' for non-beleivers) exemplified in his life on earth;
charity; compassion, concern, caring and courage.

No one has a right to try to co-opt those VALUES, although they are of course free to share, and many conservatives do of course.
Not-IMHO the ones who are actually declaring this 'war on Christmas' although some of their frightened followers do. the far right again is trying to arouse anger and mistrust, even hate.
That seems to be what Christmas is to them - just another weapon in their perceptual mangement arsenal.

http://www.wftv.com/irresistible/5492751/detail.html getting to be a real pain. there is a poll on this page conerning what greeting you prefer- it's such a samll matter yet- it irks me because of it being a device, IMHO. the whole 'war'.
the article is all about how this couple is making sooo much money selling there JUST say Merry Christmas bracelets. ugh.
I posted this on the other board when a freeper (he links to them a lot) gloated about these people suceeding "inspite of the ACLU and PC police"

Greedy people know how to make $$$$ promoting nastiness toward others. That's the Christmas spirit. How rude and silly to get upset because someone says Happy Holidays or Season Greetings-those are INCLUSIVE greetings, and have been around for many years.
People should be pleased to receive a nice greeting - not get hostile about it- and that ideally should go both ways IMHO. If someone does not celebrate they should either just smile, or if it is an acquaintance let them know nicely.

Again this is a hard core-right wing ploy- (and subterfuge)- they are using this sad, silly issue and using it as 1 more weapon to denigrate those that differ from them on various ways.
http://peaceribbon.org/ these folks seem nice BTW and half the money spent in their support the troops/peace magnets and stickers support charities that help those impacted by the war and promote peace.
some of these support doo-dads don't.
