Democratic vs. Republican Christmas movies
I would think that the Christmas movie that most typifies Democrats would be 'Miracle on 34th Street.'

And the favorite Christmas movie of Republicans everywhere has to be 'Die Hard.'

What do y'all think?

8. You are absolutely RIGHT !!!
I watched it the other night and I have seen it many, many times before. This time it had a whole different meaning to me. So many parallels to our situation these days. I don't want to start a "flame war" here, but..........did anyone else SEE the John Kerry "type" in Jimmy Stewart's' portrayal as I did? I've always loved Jimmy, in all of his movies. It may have been his stature, and the way he carries himself. The "raw" charm and engaging smile. Even the way he speaks reminds me of Kerry. Did anyone see him in Mr. Smith goes to Washington? Remember his speeches? Maybe this is why I'm such a Kerry fan ( in addition to his integrity and intelligence! ) Someone tell me that they saw the same similarity, please?

You can't get much more liberal than a Dickens Christmas, heh.

It's a Wonderful Life is pretty damn liberal also.

You know why? Because the true values of Christmas; charity, forgiveness, generosity, love of your fellow man, these are all LIBERAL values.

It's the fundies and the right-wing rethugs who are at war with Christmas.

9. Hmmm...
Democratic

Meet Me in St. Louis: Dad decides to uproot close, loving family for a better job in New York, then changes his mind at the last minute, because after all, money isn't everything. Spring comes, everything blooms, and everyone sings.

Penny Serenade: Infertile couple adopts a child. Couple is honest but poor, loses everything, climbs back up through hard, honest work... then child dies. So they adopt another.

Republican-turned-Democrat

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: Clark learns that having the most ostentatious Christmas-light display and buying a swimming pool with his Christmas bonus isn't as important as family. (Although he never does express any regret over the cat.)

Republican

The Poseidon Adventure: Luxury ocean liner full of people (who are better than you) on cruise to Greece over Christmas experience God's wrath when 90-foot tidal wave capsizes ship. Stripped to raw humanity, survivors climb from top of ship (which is now on the bottom = Hell; i.e., those who were exalted will be humbled, or however it goes), in order to reach hull of ship, now on the top (Heaven). Along the way, God kills a gay steward, a Jew, a hooker, and an angry Christlike leader with a nasty Messiah complex, who cusses out The Lord. Amen... er, The End. (OK, so it happens on New Year's Eve -- but they do have to climb up a Christmas tree!)

13. Hmmmm
Republican:

Die Hard: Courageous law officer, in an effort to promote family values, visits his estranged wife at Christmas and single-handedly thwarts a terrorist attack on American corporate values. Along the way, many bullets are fired, lots of people die and bureaucrats and the media are ridiculed.
