Theory of Incompetent Design: Was God on OxyContin When He Made Us?

Here's something that should raise Pat Robertson's blood pressure!
UMass professor presents new theory of 'Incompetent Design'
By Caleb Evan Lyons, Collegian Staff
October 31, 2005

A University of Massachusetts geology professor may be creating a political battleground with his radical, anti-creationism campaign launched last week at the Geological Society of America?s annual meeting.

Titling the campaign "Operation: Incompetent," Professor Donald Wise has taken up arms against the theory of "Intelligent Design," using a combination of scientific objectivity, logic, a discerning eye and a dose of humor.

...

To combat the Intelligent Design idea, Wise has come up with his own theory: ?Incompetent Design.? This theory challenges the idea of Intelligent Design with the argument that if the human body were designed, the designer did a terrible job in doing so.

...

"Picking on three examples of where evolution is very obvious: [the] pelvis slopes forward for convenient knuckle dragging like all the Great Apes, but only because of an extreme bend in our vertebrae do we walk upright. It's the kind of mistake no first year engineering student would make. So it's either evolution or bad design," Wise said.
Now THAT is what I call science!

10. If the Universe is imperfect, why don't you create a better one?
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 11:08 PM by Fescue4u
:) :) :)

OK, sorry this is just silly.

If you accept the premise of ID, then its pretty arrogant of the created to 2nd guess the creator.

If you reject the premise of ID, then debating within the confines of your opponents position is a sure way to lose the argument..

either way, its becomes a rather pointless discussion

11. Yikes! He just reinvented Gnosticism!
Somebody from the theology department should really clue him in.

"Though it may seem to those who believe in creationism that Wise is calling ?the creator? an incompetent architect who should be ashamed of his work, he was quick to explain the origins of such a manner of thinking and how it stemmed from an argument initially brought up by creationists themselves."

Gnosticism both pre-dated and also coexisted with Christianity for about the first 300 years. The basic Gnostic creation myth involves the idea that the creator God is NOT the true God, but an "incompetent architect" (Demiurge), a wannabe who couldn't create his way out of a paper bag. So everything he created got screwed up in one way or another.

Check out the Nag Hammadi Library if you don't believe me.

13. So does (g)od have the following:
1) an Appendix
2) Wisdom Teeth
3) A Blind Spot (i always thought that would be an excellent title for a book, God's Blind Spot)
4) Nipples

Ohhhh, that's right I forgot, once Man stopped obeying the word, Sin came into the world Man degenerated and all these imperfections, genetic problems, diseases and other errors were brought into the World. I think this happened about 6002 years ago...
