Picture of my great gay brother and his partner made me weep.
My brother and his partner were in sharp tuxedos. My brother is about 5'6" (like me) and his partner is about 5'11". The man they flank is taller than either and is beaming. He, too, has on a sharp tuxedo. The man has an arm around my brother's shoulder and the other arm around partner's shoulder. The picture is on my brother's mantel, in a sterling silver frame with the man's official seal. The picture was taken in 2000 in front of a fireplace in the man's house .. the people's house. The man is President Bill Clinton.

4. Not anytime soon. I left his place in ATL at 9 am for the mountains.
I would have to be careful, anyway. My brother is a radiologist in ATL and his partner is a high-powered lawyer. Although they made the news big-time over their legal action (along with a Lesbian couple) against the Druid Hills Country Club, they might not want me to post that picture even if I had a scan. They are both way "out," but they are discreet, too.

BTW:That was not the first event in the Clinton White House that they attended.

3. I have my reservations about Big Dog
but one thing I always loved about him and still do is his love for other people, his genuine acceptance that's not some reluctant "tolerance" but a real, honest-to-goodness brother/sisterhood. I miss that SO much.

5. No president is perfect (unless compared with the Bu$hboy)
Bu$hboy makes Nixon look quite good. Personally, I love the Big Dog. Remember the surplus? Remember peace? Know what I mean, Vern?

8. I got-out-the-vote (absentee) for Jimmy Carter in Vietnam in 1970.
I was in the "Peanut Brigade" in 1976. Jimmy Carter hung my moon, my friend. He has never let me down. This country might still be a great place, had he been allowed a second term. The liars and cheats stole that from Jimmy Carter (and our nation) .. in a pattern that is all too familiar.

10. jimmy carter was the only presidential candidate i voted for that
won! . . . until bill clinton's re-election (yes, i will admit to ross perot). that said, for all his flaws, bc IS a good man but jc is saintly. he is too good a person to have made it for a second term in washington. they chewed him up and spit him out. it's too bad politics is like that.

jimmy carter is why i chose to donate to habitat for humanity after katrina. i respect him even more because he is a deeply religious man but does not push his religion . . . it guides his life as it should every christian. the hard right fundies could learn a lot from him . . . if they weren't so indoctrinated. i especially appreciate that he does not suffer the fundies. he speaks truth to power in acknowledging the their hypocrisy. jimmy carter lives his faith and i so admire him for that even as i, an atheist, try to live by the ideals attributed to christianity. so many loud people who claim to be of faith, don't.

7. Definitely know what you mean and I love him too.
I miss his intelligence, diplomacy, and (maybe this sounds dumb) his f**king CURIOSITY and INTEREST in the rest of the world! He was not perfect and I don't agree with some of the politicking I personally think he has done, but that man was a damned good president and I so wish we could have someone like him in the office again.

9. With respect to the art of politics ...
Big Dog did everything that the entire Bu$h machine does (including Rove), by himself! And, relative to Bu$hco, very honestly and ethically. I know moral relativism is a slippery slope, but goddamn-it, sometimes you just have to pine away for the last good-guys you thought you knew. Again, know what I mean?

11. Sounds like a photo to treasure ...
Even more so because it shows something that is (or should be) so normal -- a country's elected leader meeting a couple of consitutents, who are in love and enjoying a night out.
