Poll question: Do you work in any part of the "porn industry"?
I include here print, video, and the service industries that they use like typography, printing, video duplication, etc, and any part of the retail distribution chain.

4. Nope!
But being a clerk at a 7-11 that sells "Club" or similar magazines does. (If you haven't seen a retail "men's magazine" in the last decade, they have become quite hardcore.)

27. Careful. I almost did something like that and found out...
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 09:54 AM by BlueIris
I wasn't, er, suited for it. In the sense that I didn't know as much about sexuality as I thought. I'd never assumed I was any kind of expert, but I thought that what I didn't know I could fake, especially for the position I was trying to get as an intern (editor for a magazine that published lesbian erotic fiction and poetry). The problem, as the staff saw it--and when they pointed it out I had to agree that my lack of perspective was a liability--was that my life as a boring straight woman simply hadn't given me enough insight into the sexual experiences being depicted in the pieces the magazine edited to know what the best way to edit a given story or poem would be. And they said it was mostly my admittedly limited approach to sex that made them not want to hire me--not my orientation. Which was kind of insulting to me at the time ("I'm...limited?") So, it might sound like a good idea now, but in the end, you might not like the place it takes you.

It occurs to me that you might have been totally kidding. In case you weren't, or others are considering similar career paths, I'm posting mine as a cautionary tale.

23. I'm sure they do, but only the "lucky" agents get to be involved. ;)
Seriously though, I'm not sure what the FBI's level of involvement in legal porno is after 9/11. There are teams looking into human trafficking and organised crime involvement, you can bet on that, but I sincerely hope that Hoover type stuff isn't going on, or you're right, that would be a huge waste of resources.

Otherwise, for example, creeps like Neil Bush will continue to rape young girls and get away with it.

In Nevada, regulation has been used as a tool to enforce "company town" type abuses on sexworkers.

Putting it on an even footing with all other labor, rather than in its own highly regulated category.

for Corporate Interests. No matter how bad the Porn Trade (always linked to Mafia/Organized Crime is in my mind...I do understand that some "elements of Right Wing Repugs and DINO Dems" need to "experience this" on their own.. They might love the Gambling and the Porn Floor Shows that accompany it...like "Mr. Moral Values, Bennett...but in the end the Porn Trade whether for Homo's or Hetero's DEMEANS US ALL....and it should be at the bottom of the Aquarium in the Political Food Pyramid...rather than AT THE TOP.

41. As part of my old job I had to choose films for the Adult Channel
and schedule them.
It was a pay-per-view service as part of a cable TV service I was in charge of.
Apparently I was very good at this job as I doubled the buy rates within six months, which cracked me up as I never watched the films I scheduled.

But I have had 4-5 friends or lovers that have been sex/porn workers.

The best jobs have been writing. These are a lot of aspiring writers that write porn-per-page.

Also i had a friend who wrote the descriptions of photos that appear in magazines

I'm on pay sites that specialize in BBW models. I also do print and runway modeling, but that isn't porn. In fact, the sites I am on are very soft-core, and I consider it more 'erotic' photography than pornography.
