Wow, The Billy Graham Show just layed out their vision of Christianity
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 07:47 PM by kcwayne
with a very overdone patriotic number by the Oak Ridge Boys (I think) that started with something about the NFL, moved onto praise of the troops, cut to some footage of screaming fighter jets, and then flashed up on the screen..

"To begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, call 1-800...."

The only thing that was missing was a tirade against gays. That may have been next, but I just ate and didn't want to lose my dinner.

You know, I cannot live with peolpe that abysmally stupid. We need another country.

1. What was that number?
Maybe if I talk to him, I can someday be president too.

3. Don't worry about it. Either there is a God and Billy Graham is
in deep shit. Or there isn't and....Ok, actually, Billy Graham will have done very well for himself if there isn't a God. But if there is a god, I have to think he is going to resent Billy Graham having racked up a huge personal fortune evangelising.

8. I don't give a shit about Billy's money
The quicker he fleeces those idiot sheep followers so they have less money to buy guns the better.

But I just could believe that they would directly couple war machines with a relationship with Jesus Christ. I abandoned belief a long time ago. But that nonsense doesn't even come close to the message I heard when I was a boy.

lumping gun owners in with those speakers-in-tongues. Unless the poster meant something else entirely. ;)

It makes me wonder if drive-by shooters are "touchy". Or the air marshall who shot that guy having a panic attack. Or...........,.

19. What, you want those idiots running the street with guns
after they have been propagandized to think that Jesus is sanctioning their killing?

You can see a preview of this type of society in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Ireland.

No thanks.

Has someone asked them to take up arms?

23. The presentation I saw differs little from Nuremberg
One can only guess as to how long before they have rationalized killing Americans that are not bowed before their altars. They have a world view that all is war. War on Christmas, Culture Wars, Crusades, War on Terrorism. The latter is never ending. And they love it.

If you have a culture that so easily can integrate totally conflicting ideology, and are not even aware of the dichotomy, how long before they decide to eliminate secular society by force, while believing they are doing God's work?

16. Yeah, fuck all the people stupid enough to fall for that shit.
Morons. They deserve to be fleeced.

I am now rather unclear as to precisely WHAT message it was that you learned as a boy. It apparently wasn't that religion and war have anything to do with each other.

And it wasn't compassion, either. So what WAS Jesus saying to you as a child?

29. Nah. He's just a more clever charlatan. His methods are more insidious
because, while it is the same nasty stuff Falwell and Robertson preach, his grandfatherly style makes you trust him and find him palatable. So you will hate gays with a smile on your face.

6. Wow, country music, football and a military culture.
Not that there is anything wrong with those things, but it amazes me how white Americans think everyone wants to share in the things that are important to them. There are millions of us who don't want to and have our own cultural preferences.

I don't know WHY I was, I just was. UGH. I guess he knows where is bread is buttered. I was hoping he'd take some time to focus on "Jesus" and his teachings. Then again, I only watched for about 3 seconds so???

27. If its old, then its even more disturbing
The song was not "photo-shopped". The singers were on the "Billy Graham Stage" singing about the loving the NFL, and glad that we had a massive fighting machine and brave troops to protect our "way of life". Perhaps the video of the brave and friendly troops (straight from studios of Leni Riefenstahl) with F-16 fighter jets blazing across the sky and the plea to call a 1-800 number for a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ" was spliced in without Graham knowing about it, but I doubt it.

If this is a repeat, it is even scarier that the show management does not see that promoting Jesus in the same message as promoting a stong national defense (offense actually) is missing what is presumably the point of what a Christian message is about. You would think that after seeing this horrible perversion, someone would have suggested that they tone down the Jesus as Rambo schtick. Or is it Rambo as Jesus? But maybe I give the faith based community too much credit for having one shred of reasoning capability or moral integrity.

in the Evil End Times.

So send your money to the victims of Katrina and the Pakistan earthquake where the actual need is great, and let the Profit-Making Republo-Christo Fund-Raising Phone Banks go silent. Now there's a Silent Night to be devoutly wished.

Billy Graham has NEVER ever been a flag-waver. You sre it was Billy and not Franklin his son who now leads the organization? Was it Billy Graham himself or was it Graham Ministries?

Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 11:50 AM by kcwayne
There was no Graham on stage singing with the Oak Ridge boys, and I turned the channel once I saw the fighter jets soaring with the 1-800 call for Jesus message on the screen.

I did an "info" request on my cable button to see what the program was, and I can't say for sure the exact wording, other than Graham was in the title. It very well could have been Franklin, but you know it doesn't make much difference to the core issues of this perverted and abominable message these people are pushing in the name of religion.

33. I thought about that, but I didn't write down the number
and talking to the telesales rep whose mission is to collect your money would be uninteresting because they will either not know what you are talking about, or feign ignorance. It is part of the script that walks them through how to deal with objections and get to the real point, which is to collect your cash.
