Three reasons there's a WAR ON HANUKKAH!!!!
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 09:06 PM by wakemewhenitsover
1. No potato latkes served in any of the three Congressional cafeterias.
2. No official Presidential Seal dreidel.
3. No televised White House Lawn Hanukkah menorah lighting.

Can you think of any other reasons, which are less absurd than there's a "War on Christmas" because the White House card says "Best Wishes for the Holiday Season"?

1. No mention in the retail stores...along with no special hanukkah sales
The AFA is deliberately trying to destroy Hanukkah! They are trying to exclude the holiday completely from the entire season!!

Oh yeah - NO Hanukkah days off work, is there? How come the CHRISTIANS get a special day off, and no one else's religion EVER does?

2. Hanukah is not a national holiday.
If a Jew wants to observe it, or Rosh Hashana or any other Jewish day, they have to use personal or vacation time (if they work). Chistmas is a national holiday. Easter Sunday is a national holiday. A lot of places are closed on Good Friday. But Christians are being persecuted! :eyes:

I think you have a good point. I've never understood why that's constitutional. Winter solstice, maybe.

11. Oh, I thought you were referring to Hanukkah
and the other Jewish days. Yes, I agree. Here are Christians claiming all this persecution. Look at the calender! It is designed to accommodate Christians. Non Christians have to work around it. It has always been that way. And another thing. How many times have you heard of a Jewish person wigging out in a store or a restaurant because the waiter said "Happy Holidays" and not "Happy Hanuka?" Or not leaving a tip because of this? Maybe some do it but I don't know of any organized groups threatening companies.

6. I think the legal justification is something like...
Screw all you heathens who didn't found the country with our Puritan, indian slaughtering forefathers. We're all Christians here and if you don't like it you can Get Out.

That's just my guess. I saw some kinda crap like that being spewed the other day by some hick on a comedy show...it seemed like a plausable explaination.

I'm considering Getting Out...since it was suggested so nicely.

12. I suggest you get the secularists behind you....
and demand a national holiday. I'll bet you could get plenty of us to sign, along with many mainstream christian faiths.

The wingnut heads would explode. There is supposed to be only ONE official national religion - theirs - especially since televangelista empires didn't exist when the Nation was formed.

political/religious figure, ML King. Nothing wrong with that, in my mind.

I do think that God, if she existed, would like to call all this religious stuff off, though. Instead, insist on Doing Justice! Show Mercy! and walking humbly.

Isaiah Chapter 1, with contemporary stuff freely added.

14 Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts
my soul hates. They have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them. I have really had it with this false piety shit.

15 When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even if you offer many prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are full of blood;
Stop this war in Iraq! Stop the funding of war and imperialism around the world!

16 wash and make yourselves clean.
Take your evil deeds
out of my sight!
Stop doing wrong,

17 learn to do right!
Seek justice,
encourage the oppressed. Instead of encouraging the oppressors!
Open the prison gates!
Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
Feed Children. Shut down the pentagon. Dammit, it's all i want for Christmas.

23. And that's the very point
After all, as everyone knows, the Jews own and run everything, which presumably means the fundies, but that's another issue. This being the case, perhaps Hanukah should be a national holiday. Of course, the first step would be to spell it consistently, but they could form a commission for this.

And before you flame me for my irreligious comments, keep in mind :sarcasm:

29. OK time for the joke. The school teacher asked her kids how their
families celebrate Christmas. The Catholic boy said his family went to mass on Christmas night and then opened their presents before they went to bed. The little Methodist girl said her family woke up very early on Christmas morning and opened their presents and then went to Church. And the little Jewish boy said his family would go to one of their stores, hold hands in a circle around the cash register and sing: "What a friend we have in Jesus"

17. If I were Jewish it would make me nervous
Christians have a history of promoting false hysteria against their perceived "enemies."

Jews are keenly aware of the fine line between a "War on Christmas" and an Easter pogram. Personally, I think some fundies declared war on Jews, minorities and liberals long ago--anyone they consider "godless." They want us "left behind." The worst of them--their hate is palpable.

Turning themselves into the victims is one way they have tried to frame this culture war.

34. Exactly. Claiming victimhood because we won't tolerate their intolerance
Some go into hysterics thinking they are victimized by their refusal to practice their particular version of Christianity. We must be out to get them since we don't obey their edicts. I could care less what variety of religion or no religion people practice except when they wish to force it upon others whether it is by the sword of via faux news.

It's only a matter of time until they start asking for laws to protect the "persecuted Christians". At least if the last few thousand years of history is any predictor.

That is a direct hit on the Jews. Does the white house ever serve Kosher food?

How much do you want to bet that George Bush has never had a Yamakah on his head? Most men wear them for Jewish ceremonies out of respect even if they are not Jewish.

Bounty has christmas trees ( there! I said it!) and holly and Santas- but no special Bounty with Menorahs and dreidels and latkes! No festive prints to clean the splattering oil from those aforementioned Latkes.

No special OREOS with blue filling and stars of David embossed on them ( or should that be a "Crystal" of David, in Red Cross spirit???

It's a conspiracy, I tell you, a conspiracy.
