Thank you America, thank you, for Yoga Booty Ballet
What a treat. Just saw an infomercial for an exercise video called Yoga Booty Ballet. That's right, a fundamental underpinning of my Hindu faith is now an exercise video for those who want a tight ass. Praise the lord. What a billion people see as a sacred practice, and one that has already been corrupted into a trendy activity has now gone the final yard and is now being used to market to the vanity of the American masses.

But thats not all.

For some inexplicable reason, the most sacred symbol of Hinduism, the Aum (Om), which holds such profound meaning for us, is their logo. Now, a crack marketing team has taken a religious symbol and affiliated it with buns of steel.

I watched this infomercial in shock and horror, and now utter sadness. Nothing, apparently is off limits to the marketeers of America.

1. Oh, you can be damn sure if some asshole came up with an upper body
workout called "The Cross" they'd be screaming from the rooftops, and Pat Robertson would issue a "patwah" against the marketeers!

See, in BushCo, it's only YOUR "piddling" little faith (please DO take that with all the sarcasm I intended) that doesn't count!!!

2. MADem, that's precisely what first came to mind.
Penile hardening exercise that makes you hard as a wooden crucifix. Wonder how that would go over with Ayatollah Robertson.

3. Nothing has ever been off limits
to them. I am sorry. It disgusts a lot of us as well. It isn't just you and your faith or values, they will do this to all of us when they think of a way to do it. You can bet your life on that.

4. A christian might point out that their rituals have already been co-opted
in that way.

I'm definitely *not* a xian, for FWIW, but look at christmas - in their mind, this represents the creator of the universe "taking a bullet" for the puny, stinky humans. Even I'll admit, that's a nice gesture, even if it isn't literally true (and humans aren't inherently evil in the first place). And what has christmas turned into? The epitome of shallow marketing.

Easter, to them, represents the triumph of life over death, hope over darkness - again a pretty nice sentiment (although I think I'd prefer the sentiment as expressed in the original fertility rites, but that's just me). And what is easter now? Chocolate and jelly beans.

It's the fetish of commodity - everything is subverted to "making the sale".

It's shallow, debased, depraved, and craven. I just wanted to point out, thought, that in this view absolutely *nothing* is sacred, not god(s), apple-pie, one's country, or even mother - so what you saw is completely consistent with the pattern.

6. You're right, but the initial shock is
simply that, shocking. I'm not very religious either. I am deeply spiritual. When I saw the Aum as the logo, it was simply disguisting. I was not prepared in any way for that.
