'The Bracelet Lady And The War On Christmas'
CNN featured an interview this morning with a woman who is marketing rubber bracelets emblazoned with the words 'Just Say Merry Christmas,' and how they're selling like wildfire to people who are fed up with Jesus being banned from the Christmas season. Host Daryn Kagan portrayed the woman, Jennifer Giroux, as a regular housewife who happened upon the idea for a bracelet, and how it was amazing that a normal housewife and mother could run such a campaign.

KAGAN: And clearly you have tapped into something. Quickly, tell us your Web site where people can get more information.

GIROUX: People can go to operationjustsaymerrychristmas.com or they can call us at the phone number at the Web site and we'd be happy to help them. We dropped the price way down so church groups and pastors and other retail stores -- the main thing is that people are really emboldened to finally, again, move the pendulum, which has been swung way to the left by the politically correct, to really...

KAGAN: And just say merry Christmas if that's the season that you're in.

GIROUX: Just say merry Christmas.

KAGAN: Jenn Giroux, sometime I would like to talk you about the real story here: how you're mother of nine, run a bookstore and a national campaign at the same time. You have it together. Thank you. And let me be the -- one of many to say merry Christmas to you.

But upon prompting from our own Invictus, I Googled up this woman's name, and a whole bunch of stuff came up. Let's just say that Jennifer Giroux is not exactly the normal housewife that CNN portrayed her to be.

3. We're making "good progress" in our war on Ch***mas
At our huge atheist rally at Texas Stadium last night (124,000 present) our leader told us that we were making good progress in our war on Ch***mas.

After the meeting broke, we went out, torched churches and assaulted people who had fish symbols on their SUVs.

All in all, just another day in the life of a godless atheist.

6. You know, those wrist bands could be the "Stupid Tag" we've
been trying to figure out how to make the stupid people wear. It makes things so much simpler if the stupid people would just wear tags saying, "Hi, I'm stupid as a bag of air!" Now with these "JSMC" bracelets, we have the answer! From now on at least those stupid people who wasted their money on these idiot wrist bands can be known for being stupid! Excellent...

7. From an April 2004 issue of Media Matters
"See the Passion.com" founder was Scarborough's guest 14 times in 9 weeks
On the April 26th, 2004 episode of MSNBC's Scarborough Country, host Joe Scarborough discussed what he called the New York Times' "bashing" of Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ with Jennifer Giroux, founder and director of See the Passion.com. In a teaser for the Passion segment, Scarborough said, "Mel Gibson has taken a lot of grief from 'The New York Times' ... over his blockbuster hit 'The Passion.' How many times can one paper get it wrong about a movie? We'll separate fact from 'New York Times' fiction."

http://mediamatters.org/items/200404300002

Also, from Salon:

Oh, and speaking of Jennifer Giroux, as commenter M.S. noted, Jenny first met the man who later became her husband in 1992 -- and she now has nine kids. Adding to this remarkable feat, it appears that the last child was born towards the end of 2000. M.S. challenged us to "do the math." I did, and by my calculations, Jennifer had, on the average, a child every 9.3 months or so. Of course, Jenny could have had some sets of twins and triplets, or adopted some heathen orphans, so this doesn't necessarily mean that she was continuously pregnant for the first seven years of her marriage.

But it well could. I found an interesting item about the Catholic book store owned by Jennifer and her husband. Here's part of

Dan and Jennifer Giroux recently opened The Catholic Shop a few blocks from St. Gertrude Church in Madeira (staffed by the Dominican Fathers). "We’re still a work in progress," says Mr. Giroux, who has recently retired from serving as managing editor of Dr. Thomas Droleskey’s monthly publication Christ or Chaos.

<...> Brochures outlining the physical and spiritual risks of contraception are prominently displayed on their check-out counter.

Of course, the physical risks of not using contraception include having 9 children in 7 years.

15. First the tsunami then New Orleans
God and the Tsunami

Every once in while (more often these day's of Christian governance) you see something that makes you wonder how it's possible to have been born and live in the same country with some of my fellow Americans.

I was surfing the web this afternoon and I came across a post discussing a Scarborough Country show from last week on god and the Asian Tsunami (is there a connection? how can this possibly be a serious topic for a political show?). The gist of the segment was how could a merciful god allow such death and destruction.

First up, Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of Billy Graham, went on and about Jesus dying for our sins before saying that the victims of the tsunami were going to die anyway, eventually, so it wasn't a big deal. The important thing, to Anne, was "where are we going to spend eternity?" She concludes with "so, this is a tragedy and it's a disaster, but it's not a reflection on the fact that God doesn't love us, because God loves us and the proof of that is the cross." Yes, the cross. I see.

Next up was Jennifer Giroux, soccer mom (of 9) and web publisher of Women Influencing the Nation or WIN, a website subtitled (you can't make this shit up) "The Greatest Gift You Can Give Your Child Is Another Sibling." Gasp. Well now, Jennifer starts off by saying, "Well, you know, throughout history and reported early in the Bible, God has always used plagues, floods and natural disasters as a source of punishment" and launches into an anti-abortion tirade about the "lost generation of 40 million aborted babies". Supposedly there's some sort of connection. In Jennifer's mind, god is punishing sinners (aka abortionists) in America by killing 150,000 South Asians. Makes perfect sense to me. Of course, Jennifer can't stand up to the grilling from host Joe Scarborough who simply asks, "So, are you saying, Jennifer, that God may be killing people in Asia because of the sins that Americans are committing here?", a more than fair assessment of her point (see above). She just replies lamely, "no, I'm not saying that at all, Joe." Right. If you're going to believe these things, and she clearly does, why not have the cojones to stand up for beliefs?

http://www.americanidle.org/MT/archives/2005/01/god_and_the_tsu.php

Hurricane Katrina: Wrath of God?

I believe that, when he talks about New Orleans and a cloud of darkness hanging over an immoral city, he could be referring to any city in the United States. I believe that God will not be mocked. We talked about this just eight-and-a-half months ago with the tsunami. It's a very delicate theological issue, as we talked about then.

You know, all of us have a sinful nature. And many innocent people suffer, along with those that perhaps were engaged in sinful activity. But let's look at the state at which our country is in, abortion, contraception, homosexuality, cloning, I mean, it all really comes together in one big picture.

Why do you think those like myself and those in my organization that voted for President Bush are outraged that he is saying he doesn't have a litmus test? Abortion is an abomination, an offense and mocks God.

...

SCARBOROUGH: Hey, Jennifer, the question I have is this. I think the part of this New Orleans story that bothered me the most was the fact that you had young, 12-, 13-, 14-month-old babies dying of dehydration on city sidewalks in New Orleans.

I don't know about you. I mean, the God that I worship is not a Santa Claus, but the God that I worship does not kill 14-month-old babies in such a heinous way to punish Florida residents that go over and have too much fun on Bourbon Street.

While I have no problem with the term "Merry Christmas", I do wonder what all the hoopla is all about.
Christ was NOT born on December 25th, so how is this a celebration of his birth? Christmas as a holiday was started sometime around 300 A.D. by the Roman Church in an effort convert the Pagan Soltice Celbration into Church Doctrine. This has led to many Christian rejecting "Christmas" as a Holy day of Christ up until recent modern times. At the turn of the Civil war, only 19 States accepted "Christmas" as a Holy day, all others had OUTLAWED it.
Perhaps you should research this for yourself and see that you should be campaining to celbrate Christ's birthday ON HIS BIRTHDAY!!!! (Which is in MARCH!!!)

then real Christians need to have a revolution.

Shes got a lot of nerve for demanding "Christmas" when the fucking holiday was stolen from pagans to begin with.

I've been a pagan since 1990 and was seeking this path a few years before that. I cant believe the religious zealotry that has gripped and gotten worse in this country. I can't believe I have to think about them coming for me to burn my ass at the stake let alone my family.

Fuck it these little whiney bitches want a war and thats all they ever want, they are sick in the head.

31. This whole bit about the left neutering Christmas is false
I'm left, I'm agnostic, and I have a Christmas tree in my living room and I love Christmas music, as well as the story of Christmas (though I don't believe it ought to be a basis for my life)

Christmas got neutered because the retailers didn't want to offend potential customers, and wanted to make sure that all religions and nonbelievers could particapate in the capitalistic carnage.

there is no War on Christmas! I'm sick and tired of the same crew coming out every Christmas and trying to villanize their fellow Americans during the season of "Brotherly Love". There is nothing Christian about their actions or motives, in fact their not Christian at all. Just exploiting the faith of others for their own gain.
