The majority of this country doesn't give a shit that our country
is slowly being destroyed by the criminals we call a government. You can only step around the elephant in the living room for so long. Eventually, he is going to take a dump and there will be no avoiding it then.

Budget cuts eliminating student loans, medicare, medicaid and food stamps?

Who cares! What's important is that people use the word "Christmas".

Our country slowly going bankrupt because of the clusterfuck in Iraq?

Who cares! How much is gas?

Honest elections in the US are a thing of the past?

Who cares! We've got to figure out this college bowl thing.

Our country elected a president who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground?

Who cares! He's a fine, upstanding christian.

Thousands of jobs going away everyday?

Who cares! I've got to get in line for the new X box.

I honestly cannot believe some of the things that people concern themselves with. Who gives a fuck if I say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"? I cannot believe that this is the "hot topic" that is bothering people. You could say "Merry Bullshit", "Happy fuck you" or "Happy Festivus" for all I care. I don't give a shit. (Time for the airing of the grievances!!)

After you get done writing your letter to the editor complaining that "the bag boy at Albertson's said 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas'", put down your pen, turn off your computer...whatever...grasp your neck firmly and pull your head out of your ass. Once your head is free and oxygen is flowing to your brain, it just might be time to do something about that pile of elephant shit in the middle of the room.

I don't know...maybe I'm wrong.

1. Good rant but
yeah, you are wrong.

No longer the majority. A LOT, but not a majority. What, maybe 36% On a good day?

Their day in the sun is over. They are drying up like raisins.

mmmmm raisins. Wonder if I have any around here?

24. Small minority is still denying reality.
Today, CBS claims 40%, which even if it's that high, it's a clear minority.

Bush has probably bumped up a little because he went for a couple of days with no major new scandals (unless you count his public rebukes in the UN and at Kyoto, regarding secret torture camps and global warming, respectively).

For Bush, the bar is so low it's more of a limbo than a high jump. A couple of indictment-free days looks like a miracle of brilliant leadership, compared to his usual work.

3. I agree. We ignore the mismanagement AND the crimes.
Of course, we may get away with the crimes, but you´d think the mismanagement would eventually do harm.

10. Right on, bro!
From now through Christmas, whenever I hear someone bitching or making excessive demands on others, I'm going to politely remind them that soldiers are dying in Iraq. If nothing else, it should get them to shut up for a minute.

Thanks for the inspiration!

12. My argument has always been with the apathetic
the people who don't care who's running the country because it doesn't affect them anyway. Even though I am diametrically opposed to the repukes and their idea of governance, at least they have the conviction to put forth the effort to steal it away.
It's these goddamn entertainment hungry, non thinking couch vegatables that I want to grab and shake them until they wake up.
It does matter who has the government, and these people are going to find that out too damn late, when if we had just had 2% of the asshats wake up last year, things would be so different.
The next son of a bitch that tells me it doesn't matter whether they vote is going to get smacked upside their head.

You're exactly right of course. It's like half of the nation is existing in some kind of parallel universe.

Of course, the fact that everything is so fucked up, might be difficult for many of these people to face, so they sweep it under the carpet.

I was talking to a verizon guy (no, not that one), who was bitching up a storm about how they eliminated pensions, and are forcing 401ks to replace them for managers. He couldn't believe it. I listened, since I was at work and didn't want to get into it with him, but I was thinking..."WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN ALL THESE YEARS, DUMBSHIT?":grr:

22. I love your rant, and do think it should be a pamphlet, but I think the
problem with our fellow Americans is that they are demoralized, disempowered and depressed--and also mystified. They don't know what's wrong. They don't KNOW that they have literally been disenfranchised.

So I think, if you make it a pamphlet, you need to include some REMEDIES. For instance, put them onto to

www.votersunite.org - an easy to read pamphlet about the perils of electronic voting ("MythBreakers") which they can pass around to local election officials, friends and family.

www.verifiedvoting.com and www.UScountvotes.org - for action sites on this issue.

Americans need INFORMATION--for instance, on HOW they were disenfranchised (quite directly by Bushite controlled electronic voting machines, run on 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY software, and with virtually no audit/recount capability).

And they need to know that there ARE remedies. Tell them it took us ONE YEAR of unrelenting activism to get the facts of the election system, and stolen election 2004, known, because of the war profiteering corporate news monopolies who are covering up their own complicity in that crime. (They DOCTORED their exit polls to MATCH the result of the secret, proprietary vote tabulation, late on election day, thus hiding evidence of the Kerry win).

And other ideas of action, hope, and revolutionary passion! Give them HOPE. Hope = knowing what the problem is; doing something about it.

I am convinced that there is a great progressive American majority out there--all the polls indicate this, over the last several years (for instance, on issues, 60% to 70% against every major Bush policy)--and the electronic voting thing happened too fast, and under the radar, for them to find out about it. They NEED to know. It explains EVERYTHING. And it CAN be fixed!

34. Actually throughout time "most people" don't care. They go on with their
lives through wars and tyrants, dictators and such. It's the folks who are involved who make the changes.

We here are involved. And we are on the "front lines," so we take the brunt of all the shit thrown at us...Media Bias and the rest.

It's always the few who make a difference. AND the MARTYRS....

It's the way it is. Growing up I was taught America was different.
That the American Democracy was "participatory." HA!

It's only "participatory" for the few. And when the few are CORRUPT TO THE CORE...the "Peasants with Pitchforks" start to get active, working underground until they storm the Bastile, Castle or Palace.

It's the way it is...and always has been. We were unfortunately or fortunately "THE CHOSEN." The ones who have to do the dirty work of restoring Democracy in whatever fashion we believe we and our ancestors came to America to find.

38. we have to talk about the character of the american people.
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 06:16 AM by xchrom
i've said it for the longest time -- but i think that like honest conversations about racism --
we can't somehow face it.

it's the irony of american exceptionalism and rugged individuality that we can't have an honest dissection who we are and what we have become.

you would THOUGHT that iran/contra would have brought us a sea change.

you would THOUGHT that the election theft of 00 would have brought the country to a stand still.

both of those major, major events passed with out much introspection really.

now i'm beginning to wonder -- what will it take?

or are we just devolving?
