Did O'Rielly's comments about Stewart seem anti Semitic to you?
I watched the clip last night and again this morning. Since Stewart is jewish wasn't it down right nasty for O'Rielly to rant about Stewart's "war on Christmas"?

Shouldn't we be pushing back on this? Should we just sit back while the host with the largest viewing audience on cable TV criticizes Jews for not observing Christmas?

1. That certainly does put an interesting spin on it
I'd like to ask why "Happy Holidays is offensive to Christians. I suspect I know the answer (but I also suspect nobody would say the answer outloud).

16. And that answer is (I suspect) ...
Because deep down inside, a vast chunk of these people yearn for the absolutist days of "Christendom", when one didn't need to be subjected to the indignity of having to defend one's theological theses in an actual argument, but could simply have those who disagree jailed or executed. Few things disturb and discomfort the wingnut soul more than the prospect of an honest debate -- for an example, one need look no further than O'Reilly's own infamous "cut his mike!" attitude.

It's a paradox that suffuses the whole issue of religious freedom, yet seems to have been neglected from the start: how do you preserve everyone's freedom of belief when large numbers hold an intense belief that others shouldn't be free to believe anything else?

39. You win the prize. You're dead on.
It all comes down to people who really, truly, would require all to worship their God, as they perceive him.

Why doesn't Bill O simply lead one of his famous boycotts against these stores that say Happy Holidays? The fact is businesses do this because there are a lot more people who don't want to hear "merry christmas" than will get mad over not hearing it. This is really a made-up issue, something only the far right chronic complainers are wailing about.

They always have something to whine about. It'll be something else next month, some imaginary indignity to their God.

37. I think the objection to "Happy Holidays" over "Merry Christmas" by some
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 01:57 PM by Love Bug
is because it is just one more example of the fact that white Christian males don't control everything anymore. They are tired of uppity minorities, uppity women, uppity gays and now uppity non-Christians who want to participate in our supposed "melting-pot" culture.

Well, boo-hoo on them. They better get used to it because they don't get to decide everything. We're not going anywhere!

5. O'Reilly on TDS
I sincerely hope The Daily Show won't be booking O'Really as a guest any more. I know about having guests of different political stripes, but do I really have to see this a-hole on one of the best shows on TV? In fact, I only want to see loofah-mans ugly face on KO's Worst People in the World list.

15. O'Reilly gets crushes on other men
Men he's very envious of. Like George Clooney. O'Reilly wrote column after column about George Clooney. He was as obsessed as a teenage girl.
And you're absolutely right. He covets Jon Stewart. He wants to be Jon Stewart.
Have you ever seen O'Reilly on TDS? It's queasy. He tries way too hard to be witty and fun. And fails miserably. It's like watching Grandpa flirt with his grandson's girlfriend. Icky.

4. Largest viewing audience on cable? O'Rielly?
You sure about that? Thought I heard his numbers were falling. Also thought I read that Countdown was WAY UP there in the ratings.

Loofah man is acting so desperate because HE IS so desperate.

8. yes...although he's falling, he's still like 2.5 million to KOs 700K or so
I'm making this numbers up from the last time I saw ratings. Bill has hovered around 2.5 mill and KO once got up to 800K...I don't think KO has ever gotten over the 1 million mark.

Makes you realize how insignificant a number we cable viewers are.

(I was wrong about Olberman...he's lower...in the half million range and if this is Jon Stewart he's in the 200K range. Not sure.)

25. Imagine if TDS was network, not cable
no one could touch Stewart.
But. I like his being on cable. Network TV would ruin Stewart's show.
Maybe O'Reilly's fear is that Faux will offer Stewart a show, he'll take it, and no one will ever watch O'Reilly again.

O'Reilly says he has the #1 show in cable news, not all of cable tv.

And yes the factor ratings have dropped slightly in the last 2 months:

This is the average O'Reilly Factor rating for November 2005

Rating - 2.2
Total Viewers - 2,500,000

www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/original/nov05ranker.pdf

This is the average O'Reilly Factor rating for October 2005

Rating - 2.3
Total Viewers - 2,600,000

www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/original/oct05ranker.pdf

This is the 3rd quarter O'Reilly Factor rating from 6-27-05 to 9-25-05

Rating - 2.5
Total Viewers - 2,820,000

11. he did do a great job, but I'm thinking of adding
anti-Semitic to my anti O'Rielly description. Something like, "well, O'Rielly, he's so anti Semitic that it sort of scares me that people listen to him. I'd hate for the world to go there again."

We could make his blather about Christmas into anti-Semitism which I'd sure like to hope is scarier to Americans than picking on atheists/secularists.

I am OUTRAGED that they are turning secularist into a dirty word, just like they did liberal. And it scares me.

When I was growing up, the WORST thing you could call someone was a conservative (I came from a olite family, we couldn't swear or yell.) A conservative was a looney who supported nut cases like Goldwater. Goldwater is now moderate by today's standards.

I don't think all the fundies in the country are psycho-hateful, they just can't comprehend how other people might have holidays in the same time period.

That said, O'Reilly's still a total cockbite.

I was actively taught to hate gay people and not to associate with anyone outside my religion. That's pretty hateful whether the fundies recognize it as such or not.

I only say the part that Stewart showed. But I thought it was a personal jab at comedy central and Stewart himself. Most likely because of the Colbert Report. Since Stewart wasn't personally wasn't in the clip shown it's hard to make any semitic connection at all.

38. ah, I"m not the only one. . .
What's funnier than O'Reilly's unfortunate attempts at humor, however, is that O'Reilly is targeting Jon Stewart. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Bill, but Jon Stewart is a Jew and Jews don't celebrate Christmas. When you've sunk to the point that you're attacking non-Christians for not celebrating Christian holidays, your witchhunt has completely jumped the shark. I say you hang this one up and prepare for your next crusade. Here's a suggestion : Did you know that those anti-American bastards in Canada don't even celebrate the Fourth of July?! If we can stretch that one between May and July sweeps weeks, then we're good as gold.
