1. If you have any need for a computer, by a laptop that has a DVD player.
You can get basic laptops for <$500, and a decent portable DVD player is going to run you at least $150.

2. I bought a Polaroid
DVD player for $140. It works very well. Most of them now are under the $150 price, and it's not very heavy. And yes, it's good to take on the train, a plane and anywhere else you need to go. Just go into a store like Best Buy, Circuit City, or even a Target and check out their selection. Magnavox is a big seller, and inevitably store brands are priced slightly less without loss of quality.

then buy a (nano) and DL the songs on to it. My daughter has one and they are great. They are very small with good sound. 20 gig hold 5,000 songs.

5. I have a Samsung portable DVD.
Its very good. Good color, good sound but if you jostle it, the picture may jump. Watching DVD on a train may provide enough vibration to make watching a movie difficult. So, check into its ability to stay steady when all around it is jumping.
