WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled unanimously Wednesday that the government can seize a person's
Social Security benefits to pay old student loans.


Retiring Justice
Sandra Day O'Connor wrote the decision that went against a disabled man, James Lockhart, who had sued claiming he needed all of his $874 monthly check to pay for food and medication.

1. Fuck SCOTUS - this is disgusting.
Corporations get a free pass, but sick, elderly people get screwed for not paying thier loan debts? No class war, my ass.

2. Hey, if this was done on a means basis, I'd be ok with it.
I remember about 10 years ago a local Boston station did a report on doctors and lawyers who never repaid their student loans. The implication was that the more they made in their profession and the more they owed in loans, they less they seemed to pay. I know, hardly a surprise really.

Holy Shit... Its just getting harder and harder to survive... The rich write in loopholes into laws to protect them and do their best to close ALL for the rest of us!

5. Most businesses would have written it off as a bad debt



and forgotten about it after a few years of non-payment. But when was the govt ever run like a business?
