AF Pilots on CNN-how we support our troops
say the unit that they rescued only had a 1970-era radio to call for assistance.Kyra said"I haven't seen one of those in years-don't you think they should have had better equipment than that?"..the pilot agreed, then quickly added-"but I understand they are upgrading"...Mr Murtha, thank you for trying to save the soldiers we have left...

3. Upgrading Radios has been a problem for decades
I'm sure there are experts on explaining why, but I was in the Army 20 years after Viet Nam and we were still using Viet Nam era radios at the squad/platoon/company level.

I guess it isn't a "glamor" defense item or the companies who make the radios are buying off the right pols...

4. Also they part about getting the call "not thru normal channels"
and they were laughing about it.

Someone probably had to run to their barracks because that radio wasn't functioning either.
