WASHINGTON -- What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas.

This month, as in every December since he took office, President Bush sent out cards with a generic end-of-the-year message, wishing 1.4 million of his close friends and supporters a happy "holiday season."

Many people are thrilled to get a White House Christmas card, no matter what the greeting. But some conservative Christians are reacting as if Bush stuck coal in their stockings.

"This clearly demonstrates that the Bush administration has suffered a loss of will and that they have capitulated to the worst elements in our culture," said William Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

There's a photo of the card shown on the front page (home)for the article; I thought it looked fine and couldn't for the life of me figure what was missing. After I read the first sentence I was looking and looking at that card, got disgusted and then read the article to find out, okay already, what's missing!

1. William Donohue has too much time on his hands

But if he wants to bash Bush over this IDIOCY, I say have at it.

(although I can think of "worst elements in our culture" than those who conflate Christmas and New Years into the phrase "Happy Holidays.")

So now tolerance of others makes you part of "the worst elements in our culture", nice.

Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 01:21 PM by SeveneightyWhoa
Haha, just imagine if Fox News wasn't hypocritical for once?

Even if they DID report this, they'd put one of their smiling blondes to present this as light-heartedly as possible, with all the Faux-bots sharing a good-natured laugh and merrily pointing out that the liberal Christmas-hating elites have forced the Bold Christian President to adopt their perspective to prevent lawsuits from the Secular Elitist Establishment. Oh that Bold President, always a victim of the anti-Christmas Secularist Militia, smiles the happy-happy Fauxbot "reporter" through clenched teeth. Or so it would go.

6. FUCK CONSERVATIVES
If you lurkers are really pissed at your president then mosy down to the Army recruiting office, enlist and go to Iraq and work out your frustrations. Oh, but that won't happen because that would require a true commitment to your beliefs, plus a whole lot of testosterone.

The only thing "conservatives" can do is take orders from their handlers and prance and preen as if they were real badasses. Happy Holidays bitches.

nothing new here
The last presidential Christmas card that mentioned Christmas was in 1992, sent by George H.W. and Barbara Bush, parents of the current president.

This is nothing new. The right just decided they needed something to bitch about to ruin the holiday season for everyone else.

Torture? Fine.
Screwing the poor, senior citizens, and Katrina victims? Fine. Invading other countries? Fine!
Sinking the country into debt we may never recover from to pay for this invasion? Fine.
Taking giant chunks of money from the citizens of American and magically putting them into the pockets of their wealthy friends? Fine!
Doing their level best to destroy what's left of the environment? Fine!
Making confetti of the Bill of Rights? Fine!
Seizing anyone you like for no reason at all and throwing them into horrible dungeons without a trial forever? fine!

But saying Happy Holidays?

YOU EVIL BASTARDS HAVE GONE TOO FAR!!!

:argh: :banghead: :argh:

edit: I keep thinking of MORE EVIL THINGS that matter about a QUADRILLION TIMES MORE than this ridiculous Christmas bull.

11. People have been saying "Happy Holidays"
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 02:14 PM by Blue_In_AK
for a really long time. I always thought it was a greeting to include Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's -- and by extension Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, winter solstice, whatever one might be celebrating at this time of year. What's so fucking scary about being all-inclusive? These nut-jobs need to get their heads out of their behinds and enjoy the cheer of the season. "Season's greetings," for heaven's sake.
