I was warned that the commies would take over this country.
You were, too, if you're an American. Remember? "Creeping socialism". The communists, or the socialists, or the Trotskyites, or the Bolsheviks, or SOME one of those creepy movements that came out from somewhere like Russia--I was always warned that they would "defeat this country from within."

Because of that dire threat, many of us (maybe not you, but me) were told to reject those eevil democrats, who were taxing money and property away from people and giving it to other people, who didn't respect ownership, who were "secular humanists" who didn't believe in God and who therefore couldn't believe in laws or anything good.

Later, I realized that, boy, if those socialists or whatever they are were "working to take over the country", they sure were taking a long time about it. I mean, even now, I still own my very own toothbrush and other people are not allowed to force me to share it. No sir. That couldn't happen here.

So imagine my surprise when I realized that I had been looking in the wrong place for "those people who are slowly taking over America." They weren't in the democratic party--they were in the republican party! How clever of them to hide where no one (okay--no one of the idiots like I was, anyway) would think to look!

But, there they are! And by golly, while I was wasting my time wondering which of those eevil democrats was their Secret Leader, those communists or socialists or Trotskyites or Marxists or whatever you want to call them, they had taken over America!

They've got the president and the congress, and are well on their way to getting the courts. And they have hundreds of thousands of "people of faith" who eagerly do their bidding, even though they themselves are atheists! Cool!

Okay, so they took over. But maybe, just maybe, they haven't taken over for the very long. Maybe.

1. I well remember hearing the same thing about
Communism, but we need not worry anymore--fascism is back and up and running.

3. Yes--turns out it's not about ideology at all, it's just about increasing
one's wealth and power.

Who'd 'a thought...

6. Well, okay, aside from that...
the article really shows where Gertrude Himmelfarb and Irving Kristol (who have written many books, but whose foremost gift to the world was little Billy Kristol, neocon Fox News regular) are coming from. And by extrapolation, where little Billy Kristol is coming from, since he is a dutiful son who rode his daddy's record as an "intellectual" to fame.

I guess what I'm tryin' to say is, that Fox News is un-Amurican, dammit!

8. "Let's stop calling ourselves communists. The republicans
are on record as hating communists, and we need to use them. Let's call ourselves 'neoconservatives'."

"We gotta get our act together if we're gonna take over the country."

"Oh--and remember, it's not 'faith in neoconservatism', it's 'faith in God'. There--that oughta fool the idiots who insist on believing in that guy in the sky... They'll love us!"

5. But they are not communists - They are corporate fascists.
I wrote this opinion piece a while ago called It's not Left vs Right - It's Democracy vs Corporate Fascism.

10. Excellent points. The group I'm talking about weren't communists,
or socialists, etc., though they seem to have been content to be called that in the past. They--the Strauss-Kristol-Himmelfarb gang--don't care what they are called b/c they have no real ideology. All they have is strategies for gaining power and property.

They have to call themselves something in order to get ordinary people to follow them. "Socialists" yesterday, perhaps; "neoconservatives" today, and, if it ever becomes popular to be a "fascist", then they will call themselves that.

Of course, not having any ideology of their own, they are free to use the tactics of various ideologies, and you're right, they're using a lot of fascist tactics in the last few years.

7. Replace Commie With "Islamofascist"
In the early 90's, I remember having a discussion with a very knowledgeable expert on the Cold War who lammented that now what would the "Commie haters" do with no Communist party or Russia to kick around. It's gotta be tough when your boogie man is vanquished. These people had to find a new one...for many reasons.

The defense industry needed some big threat to justify those huge weapons systems and massive defense build-ups. The policy wonks needed it to play their Neo-Con geo-political games...making the globe into their own Risk board...and the party aparachniks who saw how the fear of Communism had been a big money-maker and kept them in power.

Sure enough...we've now entered the "War On Terror" that sure has the feeling of the early Cold War days. A-rabs could be hiding under your bed...ready to slit your throat. They're demonized in popular culture and it plays real well with the sheeple...those who live in fear and never figured out the last boogie man was never a threat and thus think this one is.

11. The parallels are striking, aren't they?
And what your expert friend told you is exactly what my other half told me literally days after 9/11. I was swept up in it, waving the flag, blah blah blah. It was explained to me that "we needed a new enemy".

Not nearly as early as your friend realized it, but then, we are not experts! I'm just glad to have some understanding of it now!

9. Republicans I could handle. Fascists, however, now that's another thing
all together. And that's what these mo-fos who have taken over the leadership of the Republican party are. They have one agenda, and that is to create the economic, political and social conditions necessary for the people of the United States to accept first the suspension and, ultimately, the complete revocation of the Constitution. They're well on their way.

12. The Strausscons don't have an ideology. They just have
strategies for obtaining power, control, and riches. But they have to pretend to have an ideology in order to suck in the True Believer types. Because they need those people. And you're right--they're well on their way to closing their trap on their True Believers ("Christians", "believers in the free market", "capitalists" who work for a salary, etc.)--and to closing the trap on the rest of us, too.

We'll see it closing. The True Believers won't see that it's closing. But we'll all be in the same trap; indeed, we are already more than halfway in...

13. I am hoping that some freepster reads this
so that they can realize that while they were duking (no relation to disgraced repuke congress-scum) it out with the democrats, THEY themselves became the means by which the country got taken over.
