1. Faces of those troops.... priceless
An old pal of mine would read that as: Medals & dogtags going over the WH fence any time now; been there, done that.

8. The FIRST thing that jumped out to me, as well
The expression is best described as "having shit on your upper lip."

The irony of Five Deferments Dick handing out awards to those who have spilled blood in harm's way is clearly not lost on those kids.

5. How can it be a "Town Meeting" on a base?
how can it be a "Town Meeting" on a base? Don't you need a town to have a Town Meeting?

Wouldn't this be a "Fort Meeting"

I thought the whole point of a Town Meeting was to give everybody in the town an chance to have a say.

9. I used to hold TOWN MEETINGS back in the day
And the purpose of them, to be brutally honest, was to put out information during emergency situations, as well as "catapult the propaganda." You get the guidance from DOD and your ISIC (immediate senior in command) and you spout the bullshit to the service personnel and families, and then answer the real questions that they might have.

This looks like an exercise in complete bullshit. I doubt any honest questions were either raised, or answered.

15. She's there for the wives--seriously.
For some reason, they love to trot around the wife of the public official to answer the questions from the 'gals' in the audience--like all of the spouses are female, first, and like Lynne has a CLUE what it is like to be the spouse of a servicemember!

When you set up an installation tour for these types, they always end up wandering around the base school, the base hospital, the Family Service/Support Center, the MWR/MWA facilities...it's all BULLSHIT. There is a shitload of primping, priming and polishing to get ready for the visit, and at the end of the day, the effort never pays off in terms of any real, long lasting dividends. It's just an "I CARE" photo op, and the money you expend getting ready for these absurd theatrics never is returned to the installation budget. They are a waste of fucking time, IMO...

6. Hmmmmmm
Did you notice that the WH spinmeisters are pairing Lynne with Dick more and more often these days (and of course, she's always dressed in the traditional Republican Woman's Movement Uniform : the red-dress)

Do the spinmeisters think that Lynne "humanizes" Dick?

Or, maybe, she's just there to make sure Dick doesn't sneak a "BigMac" into the Limo on the way back to the airport.

11. A few years back, there were reports about the two of them at a
fundraising dinner. The menu was surf and turf, but Lynne made the waiter take away Dick's plate and replace it with FISH only, causing him to snarl and pout. While Lynne was talking to the person on the other side of her, Dick reached over, speared her steak, and quickly and furtively sawed away and wolfed it down like a feral dog who comes across an unsecured garbage can. I wish I could find a link to the story, but I simply cannot remember the context. It was pretty funny to read, though...!

7. In a related story...
the Pentagon has been renamed "The Department of Peace, Love and Kindness."

They must have screened those troops to make sure they found some who didn't want to take a swing at the old coward.
