Confusion over possible Canadian plane crash
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 10:12 AM by Newsjock
Just mentioned on the air, no other details. Maybe something, maybe not. I'll go link-hunting.

Edit: From CTV NewsNet, where they say Canadian military aircraft are involved in a mission involving the crash of a "small plane." Seems like a lot of confusion over what's really happened. The military says none of their planes has crashed.

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/12/07/nb_plane051207.html

A plane has crashed in southwestern New Brunswick near the border with Maine, according to local radio stations.

It's unclear what type of plane is involved in the incident, which reportedly happened around Pennfield, about 60 kilometres west of Saint John.

Edit2: CTV now says it appears there may not be a crash at all, that locals might have seen low-flying military exercises. The story seems to be quickly fizzling, although CTV is kicking CBC's butt on actually covering it. I'll stop updating now.

2. Globe and Mail link, no real info here either--hoax? Error?
The plane, described by some as a four-engine aircraft, apparently went down in water near Pocologan, N.B.

5. Curious...
<snip>

Captain John Pulchny, a military spokesman, told The Canadian Press that all military aircraft are accounted for.

He said a Hercules cargo aircraft was in the area on a training mission but the control tower at its home base in Nova Scotia has been in contact.

My guess: Perhaps the Hercules dumped its cargo either intentionally or by accident?

3. Witnesses say 4-engine plane crashed in the water. Authorities disagree
PENNFIELD, New Brunswick Dec 7, 2005 — A plane reportedly crashed in flames Wednesday in the eastern Canadian province of New Brunswick.

A local radio station quoted witnesses as saying the plane, described by some as a four-engine aircraft, apparently went down in the water near Pocologan, in southwestern New Brunswick.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said officers were investigating the report and searching the area of the reported crash.

The federal agency Transport Canada said it had no reports of any missing civilian aircraft.

6. Canadian officials: No evidence of crash
An eyewitness told police Wednesday that a small plane was having trouble and might have crashed in the eastern Canadian province of New Brunswick, but authorities have not found any evidence of a crash.

<snip>

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Dana Hart said they a person driving along a highway reported that a single-engine plane was having difficulty and that smoke was coming from it.

Hart said the witness did not actually see any crash and that there have been no reports of missing planes in the area and no signs of a crash on land or in water.

"The individual is pretty sure what they saw, so we're investigating," Hart said.

<snip>

"Nothing has been found, nothing has been confirmed, but we are looking," said Jessup.

8. Search called off after unconfirmed reports of N.B. plane crash lead nowhe
POCOLOGAN, N.B. (CP) - A search was called off in southwestern New Brunswick on Wednesday after police and military officials failed to find any evidence of a reported plane crash.

<snip>

It appears witnesses in the area may have jumped to conclusions when a low-flying military aircraft was spotted in the area.

Capt. John Pulchny, a spokesman for Canadian Forces Base Greenwood, confirmed that a Hercules cargo aircraft was on a training mission but it returned safely to the base.
