German sues ex-director Tenet of CIA for kidnap and torture

A German man brought a lawsuit against George Tenet, the former Central Intelligence Agency director, yesterday over allegations that he was abducted, detained and tortured by CIA agents.

Khaled el-Masri, a 42-year- old German citizen, claims he was kidnapped while on holiday in Macedonia in 2003. He says he was later released in Albania with no explanation, following months of interrogation at a prison in Afghanistan.

"The CIA's policy of extraordinary rendition is a clear violation of universal human rights protections," said Steven Watt, a human rights adviser to the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed the case on behalf of Mr Masri.

"Snatching Mr el-Masri off the street and hiding him away in a secret prison was illegal under American and international law."

1. As bad as it was that he was snatched from the streets and held

for months and allegedly tortured, it is outrageous that when the CIA knew they screwed up they just dumped him alone in some mountains in Algeria. Sue and screw the CIA and this administrations use of torture.

...came from higher levels than the one occupied by Tenet.
