Hey! Lieberman says the divisiveness in the country is our fault!
If we'd just be good little boys and girls and worship at the alter of Dubya and his war strategy, not saying anything remotely critical, everything would be rosy!

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/12/lieberman-blames-democrats-for.html

Yes, Joe Lieberman today blamed YOU for the increasingly acrimonious debate over Iraq.
Lieberman, whom the Bush administration has praised repeatedly for his war stance, defended the president. "It's time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge he'll be commander-in-chief for three more years," the senator said. "We undermine the president's credibility at our nation's peril."

...The war debate, Lieberman said, is being too poisoned by partisanship....

"We can't tolerate the kind of division that current exists in our country," the senator said. "Why are we fighting among those who have the same goals?"

He's a traitor to our party. He's an embarrassment--the only thing that makes him more palatable than Zell is he doesn't look totally crazed. Of course, that makes him more dangerous.

Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 10:35 PM by CottonBear
I love (adore) Gore. Was he heaving to the right in order to escape Bill? Don't get me wrong. I voted for them. But why, why, why did Al choose Joe? No one has discussed this on DU since I've been here. :(

15. I think he was a counterpoint to the Big Dawg....
Gore was pushing Big Dawg awag...distancing himself from the scandal. (Wow...the good old days...a meaningless scandal...) So Joementum looked all religious and honest. Of course, Gore ended up replacing political savvy with political dorkiness. Cheney made Joe his bitch in the VP debate.

20. He had his eyes on the Jewish vote in Florida...and it almost worked
Plus Gore felt he needed an ethical boost post-Monica and Lieberman was the first high-profile Dem to speak out against Clinton's behavior.

Lieberman may as well be a Republican now, but it wasn't a bad pick at the time. At least Gore chose someone who could carry his own state, unlike Kerry.

33. The funny thing about that is that a number of my Jewish relatives in FL
said that they voted against the ticket because they do not want a Jewish politician that close to the presidency! They are so afraid that whatever such a politician does wrong will be held against them.

26. Read his 2002 Speech - repeating the Bush mantra
"As we survey the landscape of threats to our security in the years ahead, the greatest are terrorists--al-Qaida and rogue regimes such as Saddam Hussein's.

Saddam hates America and Americans and is working furiously to accumulate deadly weapons of mass destruction and the missiles, planes, and unmanned aerial vehicles to use in attacking distant targets.

Every day Saddam remains in power is a day of danger for the Iraqi people, for Iraq's neighbors, for the American people, and for the world. As long as Saddam remains in power, there will be no genuine security and no lasting peace in the Middle East, among the Arab nations or among the Arabs, Israelis, and Christians who live there.

The threat Saddam poses has been articulated so often that some may have grown numb to the reality of his brutality. But after September 11, we must reacquaint ourselves with him because if we do not understand and act, his next victims, like Osama bin Laden's, could be innocent Americans.

President Bush advanced that process with great effectiveness in his speech at the U.N. yesterday, albeit after a season long on the beating of drums of war and short on explaining why war may now be necessary. But the President did that yesterday in New York. Now we, in Congress, must go forward together with him as the Constitution's competing clauses require us to do. Each of us must decide what actions will best advance America's values and secure the future of the American people.

The essential facts are known. We know of the weapons in Saddam's possession--chemical, biological, and nuclear in time. We know of his unequaled willingness to use them. We know his history, his invasions of his neighbors, his dreams of achieving hegemonic control over the Arab world, his record of anti-American rage, his willingness to terrorize, to slaughter, to suppress his own people and others. And we need not stretch to imagine nightmare scenarios in which Saddam makes common cause with the terrorists who want to kill Americans and destroy our way of life."

WE haven't underminded George Bush's credibility. He did that all by himself, by leading this nation into an illegal war on false premises.

George W. Bush bore false witness against Iraq by saying they had reconstituted their weapons program.
