Countdown: Murtha just drew distinction between "terrorism" & "insurgency"
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 08:15 PM by Wordie
My goodness!

I am so impressed by Murtha. Who else is saying these things that need to be said? He said that the administration used the two terms interchangeably and that was confusing the issue. That it was "terrorism" that took us into Afganistan. But that what's going on now in Iraq is "insurgency."

btw, the segment is entitled, "Iraq for Dummies." LOL...leave it to Olberman!

5. It is really great that someone so obviously pro-military is telling all
this to both the Bush administration and all the rest of us. That's what I'd like to focus on.

I think Murtha's coming out and saying all this is a significant turning point in the discussion about the war. What do you think?

10. Are you kidding me it is great. But I hear the ultra progressives usually
hate Military Industrial Complex people. AKA Wesley Clark right off the bat without getting to know the person.

So I'm sure people hated Murtha until now. Wouldn't it be easier if we respected all Dems and worked together as a party instead of purging people who we may not be so right about in the first place.

12. LOL...xultar. I'm not entirely oblivious to conflicts in GD, but almost!

Who could disagree with a statement like that? But if I agree, will I be, unbeknownst to me, taking some sort of stand for or against a candidate??? I sure don't know. LOL Give me quarter here, ok?

4. I think the distinction should be- -
carried a step further. I believe whats going on in Iraq is more of a "resistance" than an insurgency. Maybe that is spliting hairs but I remember when Germany invaded Poland, et al, those fighting the german invasions were called the "resistance", not the insurgency. Yes, I'm that old.

6. Welcome to DU, sonsera!
You may have something there, but just to go so far as to talk about the Iraqis being insurgents and not terrorists is such a huge step, that I don't feel I could really expect any more. One step at a time, I guess. And Murtha has taken that first, giant step.
