I've stopped crying. THANKS EVERYONE for your wonderful posts!!!!
I feel like I'm 18 again. Love is alive.... it just needs to be
awakened now and then. We spend so much time focusing on the
negative that we forget why we are really here. (Not that the
negative shouldn't be dealt with, but it is easy to get obsessive.)
Balance is the key. You all have helped me TREMENDOUSLY in returning
to mine.

A big big hug for all of you!!!!!

1. And, of course,
this one's for you, BBJ:

(Donovan's "Atlantis" flips me out, by the way - it was a time for me and my friends ........)

9. I bought a boxed Donovan set
of four tapes back when tapes were the thing. Now I don't even use tape machines. Guess I need to stock up on the cd set. I am positive it would sound better. Thanks!

BTW, I'm an old lefty legal secretary...hehee

3. Hey, I read your post yesterday...
All you had to say was "Donovan" and I understood immediately how you came unglued. Everytime I hear a song of his I am time-warped immediately to those, as you say, innocent days. I don't know what it is about Donovan, but he truly was one of the most influential personnages in my younger (hippier) days.

I think it is just terrific that you can have the sort of reaction that you did... you must be a really WONDERFUL person. Sure glad to have you here at DU today! :) :hi:

12. Harry Chapin makes me think that too.

Remember when the music

Remember when the music
Came from wooden boxes strung with silver wire
And as we sang the words, it would set our minds on fire,
For we believed in things, and so we'd sing.

Remember when the music
Brought us all together to stand inside the rain
And as we'd join our hands, we'd meet in the refrain,
For we had dreams to live, we had hopes to give.

Remember when the music
Was the best of what we dreamed of for our children's time
And as we sang we worked, for time was just a line,
It was a gift we saved, a gift the future gave.

Remember when the music
Was a rock that we could cling to so we'd not despair,
And as we sang we knew we'd hear an echo fill the air
We'd be smiling then, we would smile again.

Oh all the times I've listened, and all the times I've heard
All the melodies I'm missing, and all the magic words,
And all those potent voices, and the choices we had then,
How I'd love to find we had that kind of choice again.

Remember when the music
Was a glow on the horizon of every newborn day
And as we sang, the sun came up to chase the dark away,
And life was good, for we knew we could.

Remember when the music
Brought the night across the valley as the day went down
And as we'd hum the melody, we'd be safe inside the sound,
And so we'd sleep, we had dreams to keep.

And I feel that something's coming, and it's not just in the wind.
It's more than just tomorrow, it's more than where we've been,
It offers me a promise, it's telling me "Begin",
I know we're needing something worth believing in.

Remember when the music
Came from wooden boxes strung with silver wire
And as we sang the words, it would set our minds on fire,
For we believed in things, and so we'd sing.

Makes me well up all the time. But it's not too late. You can always pick up the dream and dream again.

7. Your original thread seemed like a good Christmas thread, actually.
Some deep, heart-felt thoughts and shared spiritual hurt. We ALL share it, BigBearJohn, so at least you can spread the heavy burden around to quite a few kindred shoulders here.

Just another reason why I love DU!

Since this is a more upbeat thread, I'll throw in a little frivolity:

I think that I shall never see
A boy who quite appeals to me.

A boy who won't in summer wear
A slab of grease upon his hair.

A boy who keeps his shirttail in
And doesn't wear a stupid grin.

Boys are loved by fools like me,
And who on earth would date a tree?

- Anonymous - from a teen book I read - oh, about maybe 30-some-odd years ago... :D

13. Donovan to me brings back the spring of 1968
and music in a campus coffee house where some people I knew were playing The Sun is a Very Magic Fellow (I think that was the title) and outside it was all spring green and we had such immense hope for the Student Movement! Well....it was a very magic time and thanks for jogging my memory.
