1. whoa! things are really messed up in Cali
If you think $259,900 is affordable. I was thinking from your post that you were talking about a home for under $100,000.

7. If you live in Chicagoland,
259,000 should seem reasonable. It's hard to find anything for under three hundred in that market, according to my friends. I used to live there. But I rented. Now, in the Detroit Area, I felt lucky to get in on a place for under two hundred. real Lucky.

12. the point is in bofo Kansas $259,000 sounds expensive
You can find homes in Chicagoland for around $250k still.

In the middle of nowhere Kansas, I would expect to be well under $200k.

2. "What's the matter with Kansas?"
Don't they know they CAN'T sell that much real estate for such a low price? But it's all in "tornado alley," of course ...

4. You can sell it for a dollar if you like.
Why do you say that? There's no price regulation or minimum value on land. The taxes would crush the buyer, eventually, but the price is set by the seller.

14. My bad.
It was getting intense in another forum. Sorry. I suck. Of course, if I were to say to you:

I'm picking up the sarcasim....

Would you reply

"Good, cause I'm laying it on a little thick."

15. Sorry for exploding, but it was a play on the title of that book
by Thomas somebody "What's the Matter With Kansas?"

And I live in California, where $280K for 40 acres sounds like a BARGAIN (hence the comment about the low price).

3. No offense to Kansans
But you could give me, free, a thousand acres, and I would not want to live there. No, no, and NO.

I prefer being within a decent distance to the sea, and major metropolitan centers. That landlocked stuff does not cut it for me, it is claustrophobic...

5. $260,000 is affordable?
I'm starting to think my only chance at ever owning a house, is to move to a 3rd world country. :(

8. Lived in Kansas for two years. Didn't care for it.
Even the native Kansans often asked me why I left California to live there. Was I crazy? You can get something similar in N. Idaho with beautiful views of lakes, mountains and forests for that price. Kansas electric storms and tornadoes scared the bejeezus out of me.

17. If you are retiring on a fixed income, and have some "house money"
from selling in a high priced area, it could be a nice place to live.. You would need to be able to entertatin yourselves though..:)

For some in California, who bought houses in the 70's, it's not unusual for them to cash out BIGTIME..Why not pay cash for a really nice place, and use the rest of your equity money to travel, and live well in your remaining years:)

The grounds are gorgeous and the house has a lot of potential, needs some updating but has good bones for that style of home.

20. If I hit the lottery today, I think I'd buy that tomorrow
I looked at the whole virtual tour and my jaw is still down on the floor someplace. Then again, I'm in Vegas where a glorified 3-bedroom cracker box on a quarter acre and your neighbors 5 feet away is close to $300k. :eyes:

21. Sounds like around here
You can get a big house on a lake (smaller private or mostly private lake) around here for that price.

22. The house itself would be cheaper here.
You could get less land or a lake-sized lot for that price around here. Of course, it depends on the lake. From the look of the tour, it's at the going rate for around here.
